OK! So, my family went to WDW for spring break 3/19 -3/22. We actually left our house at 9:00AM. Which is a personal record for us...we are not morning people. After a 3 hour drive and 3 incidents of my 6 year old, Carson, getting car sick(which only happens when we drive down, not when we come back...I think she just gets too excited)...we arrived at Animal Kingdom Lodge. We were greeted by a concierge since we had been fortunate enough to get a really good rate for concierge level this time. A bellman unloaded our luggage and then took us to the bell station where another bellman took us directly to our room! No check-in! He had everything already and all we had to do was sign a piece of paper. He told us to go visit the concierge in the lounge to complete or check-in at our convenience. Our room was on Kudu Trail on the fourth floor overlooking the Arusha Savanna. I was very pleased with since we had stayed at this resort 2 years ago and had a room on the same floor just a few doors down and I loved the view.
Here is our view.
We then went upstairs to complete or check-in in the lounge and have a drink and snack before we headed over to MGM. Carson has to see the Stars and Motor Cars parade every time we go so we wandered around for a bit, went to the Villains store which has turned into a dissapointing selection of just POTC and Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise. This used to be my favorite store, alas, no longer so. Then we went to our usual spot next to the stairs for the parade and met up with my mom who was also there for the same time we were. Carson got to shake hands with a penguin from Mary Poppins.
Next, Carson says she wants to go see Mushu. This is Carson speak for the Magic of Disney Animation attraction. (BTW, anyone notice a theme here...Carson decides what we do.... always! ) The show is now featuring The Robinsons. She got to meet Mrs Incredible and I did the what character are you interactive display...guess who I turned out to be...
Next we went over to Mickey Avenue for more character greets.
Carson met Annie from the Little Einsteins and Sorcerer Mickey.
Then she took her sister, Cassidy, to meet Leo from the Little Einsteins.
We had to waste a little more time before our PS dinner at Brown Derby so went and took a look at the AFI villains exhibit. Thank you, Summer for posting about this earler or I never would have even known it was there! Then we headed over for dinner. Here are a couple pics of some of the yummy food! My camera was acting up so they are a little fuzzy...
Crab Cake appetizer
Pork Rib Chop with Cheese Fondue
Flourless Chocolate cake(wow, was this rich!)
Grapefruit Cake...I was disappointed in this...It really didn't have much flavor. All of the flavor was in the grapefruit syrup it was sitting in. The cake itself was quite bland...
After dinner we went to see the Narnia attraction. We enjoyed it...I didn't know about the live actress playing the White Witch. It was pretty much a promotional tool for the movie but nice. We then decided to go back to the hotel even though we had wanted to stay and watch Fantasmic...Carson decided that we didn't need to..
We had a couple of desserts later that evening from the lounge. They had some nice fruit tarts and cordials.
The next morning we went to Epcot around 11:00Am after a nice continental breakfast of fruit, muffins and bagels from the lounge. Of course we had to do Spaceship Earth first. Then we decided to get fast passes for Soarin but they were gone within the first hour of the park being open! This is ridiculous!! And I don't care how good this ride is, I am not waiting 2 hours in line for it! So, again, I have never been on it. We went on Living With the Land instead. I kind of miss having the person on the boat. Some of them were good...I know some of them had gotten boring and monotone with the speech but it had a more personal touch and you could ask questions. While we were in the greenhouse the sky just opened up and poured! It was so loud we couldn't hear the voiceover! All I could think about was how my daughter's fabric stroller was getting soaked...We made a run for it and stayed in the breezeway next to Innoventions West and waited it out. Then we headed over to World Showcase hoping to eat at Canada...nope! They were already booked for the entire day. So we headed over to America for some quick lunch. Next we went to Japan where Carson decided she wanted to do the Kidcot funstops and make a mask. Which turned out to be a good idea since it started raining again.
And I got some snacks at Mitsukoshi...I decided to try some Pocky since everyone here talks so highly of it. And some cola candy that keeps fizzing in your mouth while you suck on it. Fun!
Since we were in the middle of World Showcase when Carson started her mask, we had to go all the way around again twice so she could finish it.
And here are the new Three Caballeros topiaries next to Mexico. I hope these are permanent and not just there for Flower and Garden Festival.
Then we headed back to the hotel for a light snack at the lounge and to walk around and look at some animals. The lounge had some really nice African wines and beer along with cheeses, hummus(I reallly liked the green olive variety), crackers, chicken strips for the kids, chicken flatbread and some African spiced ribs. These ribs were great! Nicely flavored and very tender. We then went to look around at the animals.
The next day we went to Magic Kingdom. The first thing we did was send my husband off to get FP for Peter Pan and then went on the People Mover...twice.(I know it's the TTA but it will always be the People Mover to me) Then we took our daughters on Carousel of Progress for the first time. They are still singing the song! I have aways loved this classic. This was pretty much our ride the rides day. And the times were WAY off this day but in a good way! Buzz Lightyear said 50 minute stand-by but we waited only 20 minutes and this kept happening all day...Small World said 40 it was only 15, Indy Speedway said 30, it was only 15 and so on so it was very nice! And Carson even noticed a problem on Small World that I didn't..she says to me "the circle's not working", and wouldn't you know that the face on the clock wasn't rocking back and forth like it should and the carousel in the final scene wasn't rotating either. We had lunch at Pinnochios Village Haus and tried the new Figaro Fries...Leave it to Disney to take a salad and put it on top of cheese covered french fries! Tasty!
We then went on the Liberty Belle. I haven't done this in years and forgot about the story and the great stuff on the riverbanks! Where else are you going to see animatronic moose with twitching ears?
We then went on to ride POTC and guess what?!?! It was broken down! Again! This has happened to us on 2 of our last 3 visits to MK. You'd think this wouldn't happen since it was just refurbished. But the CM said to check back in a couple hours. HOURS? I don't think so...it was already 6:00PM so we rode Aladdins Magic Carpets and then headed back to the hotel. We had some great mini banana cannolis from the lounge that night. The next morning we left the girls sleeping with my mother and my husband and I went on the Sunrise Safari that is only offered to concierge level guests at AKL. There was no sunrise though, too cloudy. We had a group of 23 and our guide, Meghan, said that they can accomodate up to 56 guests so we had a small group which would be nicer. During our bus ride over she said that no filming or photos were allowed as we were backstage. But I did notice something that I thought was interesting...between the CM parking lot and the park is a small lot with bikes for the CMs to ride to get to the park. I guess that's a long walk. It's nice of Disney to give this option to their CMs. Some were still walking some were riding. The safari was really nice! Lots of info about the animals and stopping for photos. The following are some of the better shots I got.
Breakfast time for the rhino
This is Theeka! Our guide Meghan was very happy to see her. It turns out she used to be an AKL giraffe and had recently been taken to the Kilimanjaro attraction and she hadn't seen her in a while.
The lioness! You don't usually get good shots of the lions on the normal safari attraction.
After the safari, we were escorted to Tusker House to a separate room in the back for a buffet breakfast. The chef came in and told us what the dishes were. Very good food! I wish I had taken some pics but i was too busy eating. There was fresh fruit, juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, breads, eggs over easy, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, french toast with banana compote, potatoes, a large western omelet, a large cheese omelet, sausage with peppers and salmon croquets ...that I can remember. The guide sat with us and continued to answer questions. They also gave us fast passes to return the same day and do Kilimanjaro Safaris the normal way. If you ever have the oppourtunity to do this event I strongly suggest it! We then rushed back to the lodge to pack and get out since this was our check out day. We then headed back to Animal Kingdom after packing and getting our truck. We headed straight to the safari again so Carson and Cassidy could ride it. The fast pass line was longer than the stand-by line when we got off and walked back around the front! It extended back to the stand-by entrance. And these were not the people waiting for their times on their FPs...they were actually in the line! The stand-by line was only 30 minutes. We then headed over to the boneyard so the girls could play for a bit. If it hadn't rained again for a few minutes we never would have gotten them out of there. They were having too much fun!
We grabbed some late lunch at Flame Tree and headed out to drive home. Passed this band on our way out.
Looking forward to going back in August for the Princess and Pirate party later this year!
