Unlike the HM rehab, SSE is only going to be part of the summer (supposedly not starting until after the second busiest week of the year) and if that date is correct nearly a 4 month rehab. If they push that start date further back they risk not having it open during Christmas week, the busiest week of the year. Also, this is part of a larger rehab that has been going on for a year. While it stinks that it has to close, I don't think Disney can avoid having it closed during the peak season (my guess is that the new sponsor would not be happy with the ride not fully functioning as they envisioned until a year and a half after they gave WDW the money) so I really don't think we have any reason to complain, unlike the HM rehab which I continue to be upset about.

Even if the closure date is pushed back, the reasoning for closing it (so for Christmas it can be open) will remain, and it may even be strengthened for if this closes for the entire summer that will mean its a 6 month rehab and there is no way for them to avoid a peak season.

While I am glad both SSE and HM are getting major refubs, I think it is unfair to have them during the summer, since most guests tend to travel in the summer. I am going to be majorly upset that two of my favorite attractions will be down. Why not refurb Space Mountian during the summer, one ride that I can completely live without while I am on vacation?

Probably because Space Mountain is more popular with the majority of WDW visitors then Haunted Mansion.

One of the most overrated attractions at Disney.

Maybe its better to keep it open then, and even more people can find that out for themselves! I really do wish Disney would just rip everything out of the inside of that mountain, and start from scratch. Right from scratch.

^While SM in my opinion is not the best attraction at the resort (ToT,) the MK (Splash) or even the best coaster at the MK (BTMRR) it is the ride that everyone thinks of when you say Disney. And I still think its a great ride, allthough not one I would ever wait more then 30 min for.

I will agree with your choices of best (although I still beleive Splash is the best Disney attraction at WDW, but that's just me.) I will go on Space Mountain (with less of a wait), but I only need to ride it once per trip, and I'm satisfied. I just don't see the repeatability here that others do.

That could just be me though. I have a habit of thinking a lot of attraction are overrated that others love.

^As a coaster enthusiast, any coaster I do like (which includes SM) is a ride Im not content with doing once a trip, but Im not going to ride it nearly as much as those two lovely Fronteirland attractions. As for ToT vs Splash it is an extremely hard choice for me to pick between the two, but since ToT gives me a sense of airtime I can not get anywhere else plus the whole Twilight Zone theme (love that show) it gets the slight bump up. However I will add that not only is Splash my second favorite WDW ride, its my second favorite non coaster ride (with Spider-man, HM and MIB:AA rounding out the top 5.)

Of course not, it's not affecting you, so what do you care when they do it?

Here's the problem (and I'm not pointing fingers, I just want to vent):

No matter when WDW closes this ride or other ones for extended times (weeks to months), people are going to find a problem with it. It doesn't matter if it is the value season or peak season. When I went down last summer and POTC was closed, I didn't storm City Hall and throw a big hissy fit. You know what I did? I moved on and went to the next attraction. I just reminded myself that the reason it was closed was to "improve my future enjoyment". That's why they have that on the signs outside these rides when they're being refurbished and that's why the signs don't say "We closed this ride just to p*** you people off." No, there's no evil scheme at Disney where they're going to close rides during the summer just to torture you. Please people, I'm begging you, quit with the complaining.

EDIT: okay, to get back to the OT, I wonder how much, if any, of the descent scenes will be kept. The only thing I could see possibly making a return would be the futuristic city.

Honestly, I can't ever remember a time I went to WDW and everything was open. Whether it is PoTC, RnR, TT, Splash or whatever. Something will alwyas be going on. The problem is that HM and SE are going to be closed at the same time. These are 2 biggies, and that's going to frustrate the dark ride fans.

I wonder if as they create/gut/revamp scenes if they'll just cover up/wall off those sections during the "open" dates. Any way they do it though, I'll be highly interested to see SSE this next month.
