Question Star Wars Weekends - comments or concerns

This thread is probably meant for all those Star Wars ne...I mean fans like myself (not including the new trilogy). They recently announced the dates for Star Wars weekends, which are June (1-3, 8-10, 15-17, 22-24). I've never done this and will probably try going this year to check it out because now we have the AP. I was wondering if they did anything special for AP holders like Universal does on their special events. I also wanted to see if anyone has an idea when the best time to go to the event. Do they keep the park open later than usual? Feel free to add any pictures if you like to share. Thoughts and concerns are always welcome!

I went there last year and I had a great time. Make sure and get there early to watch the storm troopers open the park!

ITA with this... it was so neat to see. I also loved how they had a stormtrooper posted over the entryway, looking down at everyone coming in.

I don't know what AP perks they might have, but the afternoon parade is another not-to-be-missed part of SWW. It is amazing to see the imperial troops marching in formation.

I also liked just hanging around the star tours area... the jawa character they had years ago was awesome... s/he would steal everyone's trash. Really nice touch that s/he was that in character... I did not see the jawa the last time I went, so I hope they still come out.

They did not keep the park open later the two times I went (2000 and 2004)

Those are my highlights- have a great time- it is def worth doing!

I don't know of anything special for APers but it is a lot of fun. They have tons of characters out and about!

If you love Star Wars, you'll love this event. The park isn't open later and the SW stuff is pretty much confined to the area around Star Tours (Old Republic/Rebel Alliance) and Mickey Avenue (Galactic Empire). There's a ton of characters though but beware... the lines for meet & greets can be quite long.

Be sure to catch the hoopla show at the end of the day though. It's not to be missed!

I think I'm going to be able to catch one day of this while I'm there! It sounds neat! I don't really care about meet and greets, but it sounds like fun just to see the characters!

Will trade husband for Disneyland and DCA Pins!

So i've been for the last three years, and planned my "trip" this year for the same time. But this year they decided to start it at the first of June instead of the middle of May! Soooo i miss it by one week. And it deeply saddens me.
But it's really really fun to go to. The ambience of the park is cool. Just walking around and suddenly a group of stormtroopers march past you. Stuff like that. I always brought my lightsaber The characters love to... be in character. From across the walkway I'd threaten a stormtrooper or Boba Fett with my lightsaber, and then they'd point at me and and aim their gun or something. It was awesome. I'm rambling.

I've only been there once (the other year they had it in late June) and was only really able to see the closing "party." I have to say though that what I saw was so much fun and I can't wait to see it again this year (again, only for the last day).

Re: Star Wars Weekends - comments or concerns

The only complaint I have about this event.. (besides Star Wars having no business at a DL park) is how some fanatics dressed up as move villains, feel they are entitled to pester other guests who are there. Case in point, a couple of years ago... this frumpy frump, dressed as some character basically pushed me out of her way as she is playing the part of one of the movie villains. At first I thought she was a CM playing the part, then split second later, realized this was a regular guest. I confronted her about her behavior and the whole incident was witnessed by a CM who immediately came over and told her to "Play nice or be escorted off the park"... she apologized and marched on. But this is the kind of thing I resent about these fan-driven events.

Othr than that, it's a fun time at MGM.

Also if you want any new Star Wars ideas you will be in a line for a long time. I waited 2 hours and still did not get in the door. While I saw others coming out of the shop with rented Wheel chairs full of toys and models.

Haha touche`! I did that last year. But i'm sorry, i just can't stay that long this year.

One thing about star wars weekends though, i know it's only a few days, but most of the "show" seems to be in the characters. They don't really do any decorating except for fake little backdrops where you get your pictures. I think they should somewhat decorate the re-named streets to what they're named after.
ANd one more thing. The line to get into Tatooine Traders is much much longer than the line to get onto Star Tours...which dumps you out into Tatooing Traders
