Talking Character attendant, food beverage, merchandise at Disney....

Good morning everyone! Well I am so glad I came across this site. I live in Orlando and will be interviewing next week to be a character attendant. I was wondering if anyone has had this role before and what exactly it entails? It sounds like a blast! If I don't get the role, the interviewer mentioned merchandise and food/beverage. Of those two which would be the better? Pros/ Cons please! Your help is greatly appreciated.

Well, I have never worked at WDW, so I can't help you there.

Just thought I'd welcome you to Micechat and wish you the best of luck if/when you get hired at WDW!

Now I may be wrong (because I usually am) but my guess is that the character attendants are the people that follow the characters around and always scowl at me when I give the characters big hugs. Basically you're a character's babysitter (and their other set of eyes, ears, etc). Sounds pretty cool to me.

As a character attendent you are responsible for helping ensure character integrity too. (ie, Pooh is going to get some honey now and will be back soon, making sure guests take appropriate photos with the chatarcters, etc.) You will also help with photographs (especially if you're at a location without a PhotoPass photographer), help with autograph books, supply pens, etc. You make sure the performer is safe, running on schedule, and the guests are enjoying themselves all while keeping nice lines that don't block any walkways.

Thank you all for your comments! I'm so excited!!! It sounds like a fun gig. Does anyone else on here work at Disney? If so, is it as fun as I'm imagining? I just think it would be a great unique job where I'm interacting with guest and outside all day. I guess it's what you make of the expereince, right?

Yes, very much so. Each experience for CMs is different - even if they're working in the same work location. Working anywhere has it's pros and cons, but as long as you try to remain optimistic and realize where you are and you'll really enjoy it. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Yeah, as a "character attendant" you are the
one who is suppose to whack the kids who try
to "behead" the characters. See, if Tigger does
that, then it hits the national news, but if a
"character attendant" does it ~ no problem

(It's just one of those Disney words that
    really means "bodyguard")

A friend of mine did this on the college program. He really enjoyed his job, and it's very much like BPF says. You do have to be firm with guests occasionally, but other than that it looks like a pretty sweet gig, with a few of the perks the Entertainment Department provides (all the Gatorade you can drink!)

He also had the opportunity to be a parade driver at MGM! Those shifts, by the way, pay a bit more as well.

Just remember when you're a character greeter you are responsible for more than one character. I don't know the ratio now but when I was there it was one greeter with up to 10 characters. Thet means you have to be good with a watch to give each character a 5 minute break warning.

Hope you get it, you'll have a lot of fun!

I guess you have to work your way up from character attendant?

Honestly, this was in MGM's parade, "Disney Stars and Motor Cars." Those parade vehicles are...well, regular cars. I don't know how you would drive an actual float, though. (Sorry to get off-topic!)

Id also like to mention again that lines are not an encouraged thing at disneyland, the characters have free reign. The hosts are just there to restore order in case brainless idiots are being delt with and/or to let people know when a character will be leaving.

While this may be true at Disneyland - it is not at WDW. They make lines. And I like that.
