I would have moved there in a heart beat. I loved his idea for EPCOT.

    Dome.

But most important, this entire fifty acres of city streets and buildings will be completely enclosed. In this climate-controlled environment, shoppers, theatergoers, and people just out for a stroll will enjoy ideal weather conditions, protected day and night from rain, heat and cold, and humidity.

For some reason, I interpreted the dome as only being over the 'city-center' portion. The low-density dewellings were to be topless, so to speak.

In Walt's film, he does say that dome would only cover the central part of Epcot...so the businesses, hotel, and shops would be covered. It looks like the dome would stop just as the apartments, gardens and the suburbia start. I sure hope that dome has hurricane grade glass!!!

I stand corrected! And if you weren't topless, your Corbusier wouldn't be showing!

When you put it that way...

But really, if it's only covered in the "city center" portion, what difference would it make? The outer "homes" area is open to the hurrica-, um, I mean, sunshine. So we're really only talking about the work space and hotel being covered.

Disneyland is one. WDW isn't because a. no one told him it wouldn't work because the theme park concept was already proven with Disneyland and b. He didn't live to actually make it.

I don't think I would have lived in EPCOT, but it would be an interesting place to visit.

It is something to consider. There are times I'd like to say yes to living in EPCOT, but others where I'd flat out refuse.

I don't see the big deal about the outer green belts not being covered by the dome. Central Florida is not exactly where the brute force of a hurricane hits. The Resort has seemed to fair rather well in its thrity plus year history. Also, if EPCOT had been pushed forward instead of EPCOT Center, the dome would only be completed recently. The estimates at the time had the dome taking twenty-five years to build.

Which is good..it would have maybe been built to current hurricane glass code!!

Can you even imagine how expensive it would be to stay at that one big hotel?

Domed living... remember that project in Arizona, I think in the late 80's where people lived in a small enclosed environment. I visited it in middle school. An interesting idea. Now I try to imagine that on a much larger scale...and perhaps that is what Epcot would have kinda been like.

I would also like to add that the idea behind Epcot is great and I am all for it but people would ruin it for the rest of us.
