Animal Kingdom Lodge or Wilderness Lodge?

So my family decided to change the dates of our vacation to August 5th-11th, and the only 2 deluxe resorts that aren't booked are the Wilderness Lodge and the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I was wondering what your opinions on which has the better transportation, closer to the parks, and my mom was wondering if any of them have microwaves & refridgerators? We were looking at the Wilderness Lodge because our friends will be there the same week at the Wilderness Campgrounds and we could take a boat to there or they could catch one to the Wilderness Lodge.

Any help would be appreciated, as to which you think would be better in amenities for a family of four with two teenagers.

We've stayed at both resorts and prefer AKL...probably because the savannah view room was so awesome.

That being said, AKL feels pretty remote. You even have to take a bus to the Animal Kingdom...no walking path. WL is very close to MK and you can ride the boat launch to the park...buses to everything else.

Neither resort has microwaves in the rooms, but we did have a fridge the last time we stayed at AKL...it's been several years since we stayed at WL, so don't know about frigs there.

We're thinking about cooking at our friends RV if we need to cook anything because they're only a boat trip away.

I believe all rooms now have a fridge as a standard. I could be wrong, but I do remember hearing that somewhere.

AKL is much cooler. Much nicer theming and better rooms, from what I remember. Location is terrible.

Does anyone know if you can share any of the other resort's pools?

I think WL main hotel guests can share the Villas pool, but I don't believe you can use another resort's pool. Does anyone know the official word on that?

I beleive everything I've seen about the Wilderness Lodge is that you may only use the villas pool, as well as the main one, not the Fort Wilderness one.

I go with AKL. Better food and the savannah is very nice

Well I would pick AK lodge because recently I've stayed at the Wilderness Lodge... but thinking back when I was in your same picking situation...

I choose WL because of the location to the Magic Kingdom and the Grand Floridian hotel.

If you want to be closer to Epcot, AK and MGM, choose the AK lodge.

Both hotels are equally impressive so for me I guess it comes down to park locations preference

We're going to AAA today to book a courtyard view room at the Wilderness Lodge. And because the only rooms left at the AKL are bunk bed rooms which won't work for my family. Also, we wanted to be closer to the MK and be able to take the boat launch to MK and the one to Fort Wilderness.
