    WDW Reservation System Changes Coming

The following was recently published on www.allears.net:

Major Changes Coming to Walt Disney World Reservations System

Please note the following information is UNofficial and
has not been released by Walt Disney World.
    All Ears "hears" it's coming!

Major changes are coming to the hotel reservation system beginning June 23, 2007. At that time, a new program will be instituted for all reservations beginning January 1, 2008. Pricing and rates for 2008 Walt Disney World hotels will become date specific.
Here's how it effects your budget: You will pay a nightly rate based on the season of that date. If you reserve night 1 under the value season and nights 2-5 under peak season, you will no longer be able to maintain the value season rate for the entire reservation.
Premium rates will now be applied for premium dates. A weekend may be considered premium so that friday and saturday night pricing may be higher than sunday - thursday, even if in the same "season".
In theory, you could be paying a different price for each night of your stay.
The upside, if there is one, is that you no longer have to split reservations and recheck into your hotel.
No word on how this may effect Annual Passholder rates.
When making room only reservations for 2008 you must specifically ask for the rate for each night otherwise you will just be given a total price for your stay. Package pricing will not be broken down by day.
More details as they become available.

While this hasn't been released yet, it has been noticed by myself and some others that you are currently unable (at least as of a week ago) to make hotel reservations online for 2008.

And since it's only six months away, a change of some sort could be in place.

I'm not surprised that Disney is finally closing this loophole.

From a purely business sense it is fair and should have been done years ago. I can recall arriving on Christmas Day 1999 and having my value season (yeah, it was back then for the mods) rate carry all the way over until Jan. 5th when I left just because the first date's rate was in a different season.

It's kind of like Disney did 3-4 years ago when they stopped allowing your AP to begin on day of first use when renewing ... ending a 20-plus year 'tradition.'

But the fan part of me feels nickel and dimed again ... that some low level VP weasel pulled out a power-point demo and showed how much more Disney could make and walked out of the room with a $5,000 bonus.

it's about time the updated the system. frankly it seems silly to me if you are traveling during the peek season that you pay and off peak rate. I doubt ap rates will be affected because they are already blocked in, but I haven't stayed on property with an ap rate in a long time.

Vegas hotels already do this... Not a big deal really.

In Vegas when you check into a hotel or look up the rates, you will always see that the Sun-Thurs rates are cheaper than the Fri-Sat rates, and they have been doing this for years...

Vegas hotels? Heck...practically every hotel/motel chain and airline has been doing this for years!!!

Yield Management programs allow for the customization for daily and even hourly changes based on criteria set by the operator.

Right now...this sounds like Disney is going to assign fixed "values" on fixed dates.

But if Disney carries on with this and goes the way of the rest of the hotel industry...expect to see rates fluctuate all over the place based on past sales history and current loads. If you call today to check the price on a particular date...that price might be totally different for the same room type if you call the next day. Even the next hour!

But... not knowing the daily rates unless you ask?
    I don't agree with that.
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

You never know the daily rates on vacation packages. Typically because they are pre-negotiated (even with Walt Disney Travel, WDTC is treated like a regular travel agency even though Disney owns them).

Same thing goes on here at the DLR. I worked with vacation packages at WDTC, we never quote daily hotel rates and just gave Guests a total package price. However, if it's just a room only reservation, it was okay to do so.

That hasn't changed and shouldn't be a shock to anyone.

This is big news. And you can assume it is true.

I find it a bit annoying, but I can understand entirely why it is happening.

It's fine by me, has my stamp of approval.

Re: WDW Reservation System Changes Coming

Hey, if it's good enough for Bill, it's good enough for me!!

About the room rates, Opus1guy is right: this is really the "norm" for the hotel industry... in fact I would consider it more of a "perk" than even a loophole if they allowed this in the past (I had no idea). Especially if, in the reverse and your room rate went up over your stay, you could re-book just that portion of your stay in a different room at the cheaper rate. In effect, making the policy work only in your favor.

As a current example (albeit extreme) check out the rates for my stay in NYC next week, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Times Square. I'm staying a total of six nights, beginning on 6/19:

Keep in mind this is for just one room (non-smoking, w/two queen beds), the same room, the whole stay.

    Rate per Night:

    439.00 USD, 19 Jun 2007 - 22 Jun 2007
    305.10 USD, 22 Jun 2007 - 23 Jun 2007
    322.05 USD, 23 Jun 2007 - 24 Jun 2007
    305.10 USD, 24 Jun 2007 - 25 Jun 2007

    Total for Stay per Room:

    Rate (USD):______2249.25
    Taxes:___________370.96
    Total:___________2620.21

But hey, they have free WiFi in every room! And self parking is only $26/day (if you're crazy enough to drive to NYC!).

Lucky for me, I have an abundance of HiltonHonors points so actually I don't have to pay a penny (!).

    NYC is crazy.
