I am against any personal information on a bracelet that can be read by just anyone. If Disney was to offer this service, I would like it to be a bracelet with a barcode, where any lost child can be scanned and have immediate parent information displayed on the computer screen, to be seen by only those who are in charge of this duty. But let's face it... any perv or person with malicious intentions can get to a child with or without a bracelet. A bracelet would not make a child safer, and any parent who believes otherwise is fooling him/herself.

Your two statements together don't make any sense... You say that a "perv" is going to get to the child, whether or not they have a bracelet, which makes it irrelevent in that example, but even though your own example nullifies its usefulness, you still claims that the bracelet should not have easily identifiable information? Err... interesting contradiction

A bracelet does not provide any protections from apparently the large number of malicious intented people roaming in packs around Walt Disney World. Nor is it intended to. However, a form of identification is a pretty good courtesy for a guest who perhaps loses sight of their child as it darts into the Confectionary, in which case, the Cast Members, or perhaps, a good Samaritan guest who discovers the child, will be able to contact the fearful parent as soon as possible...

I think that you will find a good deal more of good hearted guests and cast members, than a parent to ever have to worry about a "perv" getting a hold of their child at WDW

Kids don't get lost in Disney Parks, just Parents.

Disney handles this well in fact. Although it's not a bad idea to place a card with the info in your childs pocket, nothing too visible, as a predator can use that information to make your child feel like they're not a real "stranger".

That actually sounds like a very good idea. I also don't think a child walking around with all their private info displayed for all to see is a good idea, even if it is just a cell phone number. It just opens them up more as targets in the unfortunate event that there is someone lurking with malicious intent.

But let's face it... any perv or person with malicious intentions can get to a child with or without a bracelet. A bracelet would not make a child safer, and any parent who believes otherwise is fooling him/herself.
True also but the intention of the OP if I am not mistaken was not about children taken by people with malicious intentions. Without going back and rereading the OP this thread was just to find out if there was a tool available in the event a child get seperated and lost from his/her family. Which I am sure happens a lot. Having personally dealt with lost children just in the mall, often they can be scared and nervous and may not be able to remember a cell phone # to call their guardian.

I am trying to compromise on this issue. Am I not allowed to do that? Personally I still think a bracelet won't change the fact that a child can get hurt or molested at any time. Notice I said.."If Disney was to offer this service..." I don't think they should nor need to. If I had kids.. they will be left home, so I can enjoy WDW much better without them kids pestering me for souvenirs and hamburgers... MUHAHAHA!

You're arguing with a strawman here. No parent thinks that an ID bracelet would make their child safer in the case of a malicious child abductor, and I haven't read anyone here suggesting that.

What I tried to suggested earlier is that you shouldn't let the irrational fear of an extremely unlikely situation (abduction) keep you from taking a sensible precaution (ID on your child) for a very likely situation (getting lost in a large crowd).

Well, they don't offer a bracelet service, but they do offer a tag to attach to a child's clothes for ease of reuniting separated parties. Luckily, there is not much to worry about in terms of deviants inside Walt Disney World, so I feel confident when I attach my own ID tags (laminated with all of my information) to my daughter when we go to the parks, as I am apt to do frequently.

I feel completely safe doing this at Walt Disney World, though I wouldn't at certain other areas (Universal, Busch Gardens, Sea World). Also, I detest participating in driving a thread even further off topic, but I also don't feel safe with my daughter at Tokyo Disneyland, because I am more than familiar with the culture that produces cartoon porn, deviant vending machines, and explicit video games

Oh my, somebody missed that HR diversity course at work.

And yes, I am familar with the Japanese culture as well, however there are a host of behaviors in just about every culture that would put me ill at ease to leave my daughters with certain elements. But the paint the entire Japanese culture with a broad brush is just not right.

So, you'd rather have this perv know EVERYTHING about the child, at least having the cellphone number and leaving everything else blank is safer. And as stated before, the chance of the bracelet being use against you is less likely then it to be used in your favor tyvm.
Or one better, just teach your child the phone number so that way they can just tell the CM the information should they ever get lost. My 7yr old has had my cell number memorized since she was 5. I know that doesn't work for the younger kids but it solves the whole, "giving the perp the entire life history" problem.

Interesting. My family and I feel much safer in Japan than any other country. The Japanese are among the friendliest and most accommodating people out there, especially to us foreigners.

Re: Do parks have ID bracelets for kids?

This thread reminds me of something I saw just last week when I was in Disneyland. I saw a child, maybe 2ish, with a phone number (area code included) written in permanat marker on her arm. It was written large enough that I could see it clearly from several feet away. I remember commenting to my daughter (16) that anyone could call that number while standing in the same queue as her. Was it mom or dad's cell? Wouldn't THAT be an interesting phone call?
I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it.
That explains the trouble that I'm always in...

If I were a funny man, I could say that this quote is a salute to all nations but mostly America.

In response to the original question, I'd give your child some item that can stay out of sight until an emergency. A wallet card or something like dog-tags?
