    WDW Dolphin Resort?

A quick question for the all-knowledgeable who reside in these forums:

We are taking our newborn with us to WDW over Christmas and booked a room at the Dolphin as we were able to get what I think is a great rate for Christmas ($250 per night) and the room has a balcony, which is good when you want to escape a screaming baby for 5 minutes or so.

Is this worth it? What do you think of the hotel? At that price, is there any hotel that would be better to stay at on the grounds?

    I've stayed at the Swan.

They're both very nice- recently refurbished.

Can't really go wrong- Boardwalk area without Boardwalk prices.

Easy walking/ boat access to Epcot, Studios, buses to the other areas. Extra Magic Hours access. And of course, the boardwalk area/ atmosphere itself.

    Enjoy your trip!

I have never stayed at that hotel, simply because I live near WDW, but the Dolphin, as much as I hate the look of the building and the intrusion in the EPCOT Center skyline... is very well located within walking distance to EPCOT, the boardwalk, fantasia minigolf, and the Studios. Location is what makes it better for me. Sorry can't help you further.

Well, from what i have heard, the walls are like paper.
If you are talking at normal volume then its possible for the people in the other rooms to hear you. I myself have not stayed there, because i go so often that if we went to a WDW resort for every trip, we would be broke, but i have heard many stories about it. But for $250 a night, thats an amazing price

Definitely watch in case prices get any lower (AAA, AP, etc.). But it is a lovely hotel, with great Heavenly beds and a fantastic location.

Not from my experience. But that was the Swan.

Agreed. One of the most comfortable rooms I've ever stayed in at a Disney hotel. Not much theming or Disney magic though, and I find the exterior quite ugly.

    They are!

I've not had an issue with noise from other rooms. Not any more than a Disney resort. I actually like the theming, and it took a while - but I now like the exterior (especially at night).

    Re: WDW Dolphin Resort?

My family has stayed at all the category of hotels in WDW from All Stars to Grand Floridian and honestly, the Dolphin was our best stay. We have actually stayed there three times and while there may not those "little" Disney touches on everything you see and touch, it's so BEAUTIFUL! The grounds are always perfect, the rooms are new, and the beds are AMAZING! The customer service is on par with all the Disney hotels and now that I look back at it, on many occasions the Dolphin staff was tops. They have done things from surprising my parents with a gift in the room one summer to upgrading our room without telling us....and calling the room 1/2hr later to ask us if we LIKED it (of course!).

    Enjoy!

I would say also that on our last stay at the Swan, the staff was at least as good as Disney (if not better in some instances). We were also upgraded.

    Completely agree about the staff.

I was upgraded too! Balcony room.

Also, Picabu's Buffeteria in the Dolphin must rank as one of the best, if not the best counter service location on property. Huge selection. VERY nice food! Very welcome after the predictable McDonalds quick service locations in the parks.

Well, that also happens to be the case at other NON Disney hotels in Orlando. Remeber, you pay the Disney premium for staying on Property, not because it's better.

a good site to check is mousesavers.com

I know the Swan and Dolphin offer teacher discounts and government employee discounts, so if they apply to you, might call and ask. If not, Mousesavers has a great list of all discounts available.

In theory, it should be. Disney should be friendlier, should be cleaner, etc. But sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.

Does Disney control anything in the hotel? They are, for now, the only hotels on the property not owned by the Mouse.
