How can they do that? (stay open later for hotel guests)

I just recieved the Vacation plannnig DVD for WDW. They mention a couple of times that staying on a WDW hotel gives you the perk of being longer in the parks. "each day one of the parks will open 1 hour earlier or close up to 3 hours later"
How can they ensure that only hotel guests get to stay in the park later?

About 2 hrs. before regular closing time they issue wristbands to resort guests, you need to show your keycard and sometimes an ID with it to get the wristband. After regular closing time only those with the wristbands are allowed on attractions.

No. They use to offer 'Magic Mornings', but that got cut. SOmetimes, Main Street opens up to a half an hour before the park opens.

at DLR, if you book with the travel co. or AAA (not sure if it's one or both), they have a special morning thing in toontown.

Unfortunately I'll never be able to take advantage of those extra magic hours because I'll never be able to afford to stay at a Disney hotel.

Aimster, you say you will never be able to afford a Disney hotel. Hogwash. Just think back to the days (late 80's to early 90's) when "Middle America" types would actually save their money for a year or three and then come to WDW and enjoy themselves. So now it takes a year longer, but it can be done. Also, the do have special Florida resident pricing at the hotels, just have to spend some time doing research. When I was in costume, you could usually tell the people who saved for the trip. The were, get this folks, POLITE. If your kid was rude to another kid, did anything disrespectful while I was out with Mickey or Minnie, guess who had their foot "accidentally" stepped on. Or who was "shame shamed" with my paws? The parents understood completely and usually, but not always, had their brats appologize.
