    Costume Masks Move!

Hey guys! I know this is probably way old news, but I haven't been keeping update lately. Anyways, I was on youtube and came across a video of the "Dream Along with Mickey" show in front of the castle. I was in AWE when I saw that the heads of the characters (mickey, donald, ect.) moved their mouths and blinked their eyes! I couldn't believe it! This is so fascinating to me. I'm from CA and I've never seen anything like this at Disneyland. Anyone know any info on this technology. I just think its wonderful!

I just noticed it myself on my last July 4th trip to WDW. I was shocked and had to take a double take. My friend doesn't like the new Captain Hook and Smee because the new faces on the same show take away from what they grew up loving.

Next you know that ears will be moving back and forth as if they heard a sound and Mickey's tail will probably start waking... before you know it...

This is the next logical step in the evolution of the park characters. I would think that it will be isolated to shows for now but suspect that the meet and greet characters will eventually feature this function as well. The Bunsen and Beaker doing the rounds at the moment show that Disney are keen to update the character interaction.

WDGE (Walt Disney Genetic Engineering - A division of WDI) is hard at work creating the bleeding edge of park characters.

No costumes to mend/wash. No wages to pay, and when they get old they get to go to "The Island"

I think this could actually be a double edged sword for Disney.
When we went to the park this summer and saw the show my 4 year old was thrilled when the characters actually "talked" and "blinked".
That was of course until we attended our first character breakfast at the Cape May Cafe and our character meet and greet sessions at Toontown where they were all typically "mute" and lacking facial movement.
Suffice to say the experience generated quite a bit of discussion and justification on the part of us parents.

This late word just in from Mouse HQ: Mickey's costume has no tail.

    That is all.

y'all didnt notice this until now?? well, it was a pretty recent update. WDC has plans for more "animated" fur characters. If youll notice, Captain Hook and Mr. Schmee have been made into face characters with prosthetics to give the same animated facial effects as their prior fur versions.

I wish that they would give the final Mickey in Fantasmic! this treatment, just for the line, "Some imagination huh?"
It's the only time that a non animated character really talks in the show and it would be nice for it to look a little more real

New just in from DLP! The Legend of the Lion King show has featured an 'animated' Timon since its opening in 2004! I saw the show last year and never even noticed!

    So there are two options.............

-it's so subtle and natural you were subconciously amazed

    - you need glasses

It actually was pretty subtle on Timon. certainly more subtle than Mickey and co seems to be. I was near the front but it never registered. I had to rake out last year's video footage to check.

I probably need glasses as well - last week at a character meal, I gave my order to Mr Smee!

This technology has been in place at WDW since the Lion King show in Fantasyland. Rafiki's mouth moved. That was well over 10 years ago. I will once again say that these heads are not going to meet and greets. Castle show right now and soon to parades and Fantasmic!

Watch the characters right hand. There are little movement sensors on their fingers to close the mouth and the eyes.

I personally hate them and think they are evil.

From the point of view of the viewer or performer?

From the viewer's POV I can't see anything at all to dislike.
