Ol' Bill in Pirates

Just wanted to post a question to see if anyone else has ever experienced this or not. On our most recent trip to WDW (May 2007) my fiance and I were on Pirates. When we came upon Ol' Bill and his kitty we both smelled rum...as if someone had just taken a shot of rum and breathed on us. We have been on Pirates literally 50-100 times and have never experienced this before. Has anyone else had this encounter?

But then I smell like rum anyway, so I dont think i would notice any extra *hic*

I didn't notice a rum smell, but I will tell you what I DID notice that I had never seen before. Perhaps it's because I usually sit on the left hand side of the boat (for whatever reason), I had never seen the rum bottles floating in the water! At first I thought it was another example of littering, but to my relief, they were empties!

Hi Missymouse - I rode PoTC yesterday with friends, and I didn't smell one bit o' rum by Pirate Bill.

WOW....thanks so much for checking that out for me.....that is too weird. My fiance and I were there for the whole week....went on the ride at least 5-8 times. Only on that last go around did we smell anything....really strange. Neither of us mentioned it until after we were off of the ride for a good 15 minutes or so. That is just strange.

So we are unsure of this happenings....but we do know that there was a green ghost that followed us home! ;-)

I tried it too last week. No rum (plenty of flash pictures though)

I was just there Saturday with Summer and we made a point to check this out and smelled nothing as well.

Just an additional comment on Ol' Bill:

I was told Ol' Bill was named after Disney Legend animator/Imagineer Bill Justice, who just happened to also be a designer and Audio Animatronics programmer on both the original Disneyland and WDW Pirates attractions.

Wasn't built to look or sound like him. But apparently in his younger days...Bill was known to be quite the, well...partyer...after work on occasion. So as a friendly insider reference/joke at the time...they named that character "Ol' Bill."

Though from many personal experiences with Bill...I'd have to say his personal preference is for vodka...not rum. At least during the great times I spent with him.

Didn't smell rum but did notice that he had an eye patch.
