    Hotel & dining recommendations?

Hubby and I are planning a trip Jan 19-20th for our 7th anniversary. Any suggestions would help. We are AP holders. We are looking to making our first stay on property, maybe the moderate resorts category. Which would be the best choice? We plan on going to Epcot on the 19th and eating somewhere in the world. It would be great to have a table where we could watch Illuminations from if possible. How early in advance do I need to make the dining reservations?

I would recommend the Wilderness Lodge and making the reservations for the dining 60 days before the evening you wish to go. For that I would recommend Rose and Crown out on the patio 1407WDWDine

My personal picks are the Polynesian Hotel or the AK Lodge... but those are not moderate...

For the Moderate, I like the Caribbean Beach Resort

Originally I thought that too, but they are from Florida, so maybe they would want a themed hotel to take them away from a Florida/Caribbean locale, like the Wilderness Lodge.

Lots of people have recommended port orleans, good setting and some of the best bus scheduling around the resort. Also, I'm trying the Bistro de Paris this year. I was told there is a chance of seeing illuminations if you have window seating. The Rose and Crown is supposed to be very good for fireworks as people have told me it has an outside veranda that overlooks the water. Either way, enjoy your trip!

I've stayed at most of the moderates, and my preference is the Port Orleans Resort. Many people like the French Quarter, but I prefer Riverside!

    Port Orleans French Quarter

My all time FAVORITE moderate resort (assuming you like the New Orleans theme)

    For a few reasons:

    1. It's small, there really isn't a bad room anywhere at that resort.
    2. It's intimate and romantic, great for couples.
    3. It offers the boat to DTD which is a nice switch from the buses.
    4. I personally have never had any bus problems staying there and that includes a bus ride back at closing.
    5. You have your choice of two pools (Riverside and French Quarter)

You can view some photos I took last Memorial Day here.

Add me to the Port Orleans list. I've stayed at Riverside and French Quarter (stayed there last weekend) and I liked them both.

As for dining, the only sit-down restaurant that offers Illuminations seating is the Rose & Crown pub in the UK. I had lunch there once and liked it. If you like English pub grub, it's a good place to eat. Chefs de France has good food too. I had lunch there last weekend and loved it. Outside of that, I'm a counter-service girl.

Wonderpup is pretty laid-back and "go with the flow". Whatever makes me happy, makes Wonderpup happy.

I've only done sit down dining at the Garden Grill with my dad many years back. We've only done counter service and snack stands.

Might try this site for detailed info on things like resort locations, room pictures, restaurant menu's etc. etc. etc.

    http://allearsnet.com/

I used allearsnet.com a LOT when planning our trip last Feb. Chose Coronado Springs based largely on info from that site and really enjoyed it. It's a very big resort, so expect a lot of walking. Other than that, it was great. This October we're going to try the Polynesian for the first time. Really looking forward to that because I've always heard really great things about it and it's a relatively inexpensive monorail resort. (Really wanted a resort on the monorail this time)

Far as dining goes, I'm not sure what location(s) will give you a view of Illuminations. Did, however, really enjoy Garden Grill and Coral Reef last year. This year we're going to try lunch at Le Cellier.

For reservations, I believe they start taking reservations 6 months in advance. I would get on that ASAP because those time slots fill awfully fast!

I always follow Summer on these things. POFQ is my favorite moderate resort as well. We love the beignets!

As for dinner, Rose and Crown gets my vote. Love the hard cider, yum!

HAve fun and let us know what you decided.
