Well... last time I rode it, it was still the same speed but, also the same bad bad bad show to go with it.
I always figured that speed sign was fake anyway.

You probably drove at a higher speed in the car to get to the park.
60mph isn't impressive.
But it feels faster because of the banking- so eliminating the sign would give the illusion of a higher speed.
If you don't appreciate 60mph... do one of the mobile setups found around the country that show you what hitting a wall at 15mph is like (sled into a stop).. then you'll appreciate the speeds

i also noticed some of the ride vehicle tires in need of some air. That probably could cause some slow down. But driving 80-90 mph on the highway to get to WDW makes the ride less impressive.

I think its the idea of an open wind, small ride car going 60MPH that gets me everytime. LOL
It's easy to not be impressed driving in your car going 80mph but take away the doors and windows and I might be a little more thrilling.
When does one ever get the chance to do 60 on a 50 degree bank? It certainly is thrilling for me in the curves.
It is, on the banking.
But then when you're told that you're "only" doing 60mph some of the perception of speed is lost.
Without the sign, you might think you're doing 100+
I understand at what you are getting. It is a psychological reason.
Entirely.
Illusion, of course, is behind most of WDI's best work.
Which is why this sign has always puzzled me.

It seemed pretty slow to me when I rode it last year.

Go to Cedar Point and ride Top Thrill Dragster, that ride goes 120 MPH, and Six Flags Great Adventure has Kingda Ka which runs at 128 mph.
This is WDW we're talking about here. None of those rides and numbers apply here.
Well at least I am not the only one that thinks Test Track has a horrible show element.
Well most WDW rides have really good show elements to make up for whatever statistics and extreme thrills other parks have, but Test Track's show elements are really bad, so they don't make up for only going 65 miles per hour in a circle.This is WDW we're talking about here. None of those rides and numbers apply here.
