Below is the best picture I could find of the MK castle before they installed the "Happiest Celebration's" bling! Plus, I don't know about you kiddies, but I used to like the original hub and big trees in that area as well... Now, it looks a bit too bare.
I was going to say that too!!! The trees in the hub are sorely missed. It looks so bare and flat now.
Well the zig-zag lines are so big, it distracts my eye too much and makes it all look off scale...at least to me. I just don't like it because they are too big, too bright a blue, and too cheaply painted on there.
A friend of mine that went to Disney World this past summer didn't even bother going to the Magic Kingdom because she had heard it was so inferior to Disneyland. It's reputation is damaged.
Too bad. Because I still feel the MK is worth visiting... at least so others can see for themselves how inferior it is to it's 4 sister DL parks!!! HAHA!!
and too cheaply painted on there.
If they did things with a bigger budget at the MK, we too would have cobblestones on Main Street sidewalks, golden accent features on the castle, and a killer state of the art LED electrical parade... So what else is new?
The criss cross has been there since YoaMD started, but the zigzags didn't go up until the Christmas lights went up.
Now I am really confused are you saying that the new Christmas lights are already up in that picture. I understand what you mean that the criss crosses (above the clock) were done when the castle got repainted toward the end 2006. But the new zig zags on the upper portion are fairly new, but when did they begin hanging the new lights?

A search on a-magical-wdw-website shows that the crane went up in late September (which I believe did both the new zig-zag and the lights).

Of course, it is possible that they added the zig-zag pattern just before the lights went up, using the same crane.. But then again, since the TDL castle look is nicer, I never cared to look up at the castle here, until the other day when they lights caught my attention.
