In a news conference Thursday afternoon, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the suspicious device found Wednesday on State Road 417 is related to the Disney pipe bomb explosion.
On July 2, a security officer in the parking lot of Pleasure Island heard a loud bang. When he investigated, he found a lid of a trash can was blown off by what officers said was a pipe bomb.
Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary said three weeks ago, a CrimeLine tip led authorities to a few people related in the Disney case.
A week ago, those people confessed to the Disney case and other cases.
“Future investigation has led us to believe there were a number of suspects involved. One suspect, after questioning, led us to believe where there were other devices made and discarded in Orange County. The suspects led us to State Road 417 yesterday where one device was located and rendered safe by the hazardous device unit,” said Beary.
Authorities believe they have all of those devices in their possession.
Meanwhile, Brandon Woll, 21, is charged with manufacturing an explosive device.
Arrest reports said Woll's father and girlfriend led investigators to the device in the westbound lanes on State Road 417 near the 535 exit around 4:30 p.m.
He is currently out on bond, but will face state and federal charges.
A number of other suspects have been identified but not arrests. Deputies have ruled out terrorism in this case.
The investigation is ongoing.
