Re: 10.21.07-10.27.07 -- Coheteboy's 3rd Trip to WDW (Mice Invasion II)

Thank you to all you loyal readers who have stuck with me thus far. I know this is probably the slowest moving trip report but I hope that it's interesting enough!

And now, the last act of day 4!

After a double day of Universal Studios, I was tuckered out and went back to Port Orleans French Quarters. It was still relatively early so I filled up my refillable mug with some soda or ice tea and hit the hot tub.

There, conversations started with some other tourists. 1 gent was from the U.K. traveling with 14 other people and basically loved to eat.

Another couple was from Canada who were enjoying eating everywhere different.

It was really neat speaking to people from all over on what they liked and what they didn't.

The restaurant that the Canadian couple really pushed was California Grill at the Contemporary. Now I wish I hit it up because everyone who goes there has loved it. This Canadian couple also really liked the new Circle Vision in Canada and were also fascinated by my information about Disneyland. All this time, they thought it wouldn't be worth their time because it's another "Magic Kingdom". I explained to them the differences and there are more rides in a smaller area, that's all they wanted to know. The wife just wants to do more rides and right then and there they told me that January was their next trip to CA.

The gent from U.K., he was really telling us about this one restaurant that was "absolutely fantastic" and even after eating there 3 nights in a row, it got better and better.

"What is this restaurant you speak of?" I asked.

    he replied "planet hollywood."

Okaaaaay. Maybe we Americans are just too dang spoiled when it comes to food but I really did almost do a spit take when he said that. I was expecting something really unique and out there.

Alright so after soaking in the hot tub listening to people talk about food, it was time to get some for myself. My buddy Jeff and I decided to do Downtown Disney for once.

    Saw an interesting store:

Jeff really wanted Fulton's Crab House (the backside of the boat only said "Fulton's Crab" because the 'house' was burnt out. hahhaha)

But after checking out the menu and the crab cake appetizer was north of $30, I said no. Instead, we went to the Earl of Sandwich. Which was a wise choice apparently...

The entire crew was back from their Animal Kingdom expedition and eating the sandwiches there too!

And then that was the end of that evening. Hit up the bar back at Port Orleans to listen to the live music. CM's were really getting into it:

After one beer and Jeff was ready to dance along...

They gave him a piece of cake for being a good sport!

    END DAY 4.

    Day 5 = MGM Studios.

Re: 10.21.07-10.27.07 -- Coheteboy's 3rd Trip to WDW (Mice Invasion II)

Whoops! Forgot to do my recap on Universal Studios!

Ok well... Universal Studios Florida, I really didn't do too much because I had been before and not too much has changed. While I only rode Mummy Returns and Men In Black, it was enough to see that this was a pretty good park. A real theme park compared to Universal Hollywood, which does have an actual movie studio in the back. That's probably the main highlight.

Universal Studios Florida is broken up into 6 lands with 20 attractions total. Many of the rides are just extended versions of the Hollywood Tram Ride.. only separated into their own thing.

Here's the lands and the ride breakdown:

    PRODUCTION CENTRAL
-Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast -- motion simulator
    -Shrek 4D -- 3D movie

    NEW YORK
-Twister...Ride it Out -- wish I got to see what this was all about
-The Blues Brothers -- outdoor show
-Revenge of the Mummy -- rollercoaster
-Delancey Street Preview Center -- rate new shows under network consideration

    SAN FRANCISCO / AMITY
    -Beetlejuice's Graveyard Review -- show
    -Earthquake
    -Jaws -- boat ride

    WORLD EXPO
    -Men in Black Alien Attack

    WOODY WOODPECKER'S KIDZONE
-Animal Actors on Location -- show
-A Day in the Park with Barney -- show
-Curious George Goes to Town -- playground
    -Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Coaster
    -Fievel's Playland -- playground
-E.T. Adventure -- ride (awww i miss this!)

    HOLLYWOOD
    -Universal Horror Make-Up Show
    -Terminator 2: 3D -- 3D show
-Lucy - A Tribute -- walk through display
    -Mel's Drive-In Concert -- show

And that's Universal! With Simpsons coming next year and Harry Potter coming in a few years, it looks like there will be a few good reasons to visit again!

you did not miss much at Twister. Its really lame. Basically you go through a queue made to look like a house that had been hit by a tornado. That part is actually not bad. Then you go in a show room and they have a twister effect and a cow floats by attached to wires. Like, I said, its lame. Go back to MIB or Mummy instead.

FANTASTIC REPORT CoheteBoy!!! Loved so many of your pics.
I haven't been to Islands of Adventures, and Lost Continent look
Fantastic!!! DL could sure use and area like that!!!!!

And I loved your pics of WDW, it's been 10 years since my last
trip there, and you captured some great shots, to refresh my
memory. Much of Fantasyland really needs a makeover, the
entrances to all the dark rides are really cheap looking. WDW
    really deserve better.

Did anyone go to the Adverturers Club?

Thanks, Aladdin! I agree about Fantasyland but from the looks of it, it does appear that some areas have gotten some retheming of some sort. The stores directly adjacent to the rear end of the Castle for starters feature actual architecture (tinkerbell treasures and sir mickey's). Then the rides and shows go back to the medieval faire style. I'm not sure what's taking so long but I suppose in the grand scheme of things, with the number of tourists that visit, it would be bad show to shut it down and disappoint so many. But it may be worth it in the long run.

Adventurer's Club! Stay tuned for the end of Day 5.

Umm CB. If you have ever been to England -- I'm not trying to be mean here but what they say about English cuisine is the absolute truth...

Coheteboy, thanks for continuing your trip report! Although I've visitied IOA, I've never been to USF, so it was great to see it through your camera. The theming of Men in Black is amazing. Wow! I'll have to make it a point to get there sometime in the future.

Our family did eat at Fulton's Crab House the last time we were in Orlando and it was one of our best meals of the trip. But yes, not exactly easy on the wallet. How did you like Earl of Sandwich?

Thanks again for putting this TR together!

Glad you're liking it! I enjoyed Earl of Sandwich. It's probably one of the more inexpensive meals you can get at WDW but it's not entirely filling. My friend and I got an extra sandwich to split to satisfy our hunger pains. A drink with refills was $1.75.

    DAY 5 -- OCTOBER 25, 2007

I know I told you guys that day 5 was MGM studios and while that is true, we didn't start off there. We missed the Kilimanjaro Safaris the first time we went so we had to go back and do it.

And because it was a much cooler and cloudier day, the animals were definitely more visible, which was certainly a good thing!

The morning started at the bus stop and this little girl really got a kick out of Mousercise's Pal Mickey dressed up as a pirate. She kept on smacking him with her wand while laughing her little head off. It was cute...

And then off to DISNEY'S ANIMAL KINGDOM!

    Bus ride took FOREVER.

At last! The Tree of Life was visible.

Gaaah, out of two stops at Animal Kingdom and I didn't get around to visit the tree.

    We headed straight to Africa

Africa takes place in a fictional village called Harambe.

We picked up our fastpasses for Kilimanjaro Safaris

With some time to kill, we decided to take the train ride to:

Rafiki's Planet Watch is just a short trip away on a train.

    Hey that's my chair!

    Rafiki beckons us in!

We'll find out what's in store at Conservation Station next!

Re: 10.21.07-10.27.07 -- Coheteboy's 3rd Trip to WDW (Mice Invasion II)

After walking through some trails with some neat exhibits, we finally come across this facade:

This is conservation station and each animal or insect on that montage is endangered in some way or another. It's insane to think of losing any one of those creatures.

One disney character who is always in tune with nature is Pocahotas

She stands in front of the "song of the rainforest" exhibit

On the other side is Disney's environmentalist conscience, Jiminy Cricket.

Ooooh, a long snake! (that's what she said!)

Like the animation walk-through at MGM, you can see staff hard at work. I feel weird spying on these people.

Here, they're fixing up the bird's foot.

    All better! I think?

    Lazy.

    Asante sana squash banana....

We boarded the train back to Africa soon after skipping the petting zoo. The view to and from Conservation Station is less than amusing. There's nothing to look at. Just kidding... on the way there we pass by the housing for the animals where they are checked up on overnight. It takes them two hours to round up all the animals which is why Animal Kingdom closes so early.

Don't you just love details like this?

Another shot of the Tree of Life

Best pick up line: Hey, lady... did you know that I'm a vegetarian?

moving on to a short trip to Asia coming up...
