Man Dies After Fall At Disney

Man dies after fall at Disney

    December 1, 2007

ORANGE COUNTY - -A man who slipped and fell outside a restaurant at Disney's Magic Kingdom on Thursday died of his injuries Friday, according to Disney officials.

The 72-year-old man, who was at the theme park with his family, was taken to a hospital where he died, spokeswoman Jacquee Polak said. She did not give the man's name.

Orange County sheriff's spokesman Carlos Padilla said his agency did not respond to the incident and is not investigating the death.

A Disney employee at Animal Kingdom died Thursday evening after being hit by a moving ride car the previous Saturday. Karen Price, 63, was working as an attendant at the Primeval Whirl, a roller coaster-type ride, when she fell and hit her head. She was in a restricted area that was not allowed when the ride was in motion, Polak said.

The Occupational Safety and Heath Administration is investigating Price's death.

Robyn Shelton, Bianca Prieto, Katie Fretland, Sarah Langbein, Ludmilla Lelis, Denise-Marie Balona and Willoughby Mariano of the Sentinel staff contributed to this report.

Although...if I could choose where I could spend my last few seconds on Earth, Disney would be pretty high on my list.

Me too! I know it's morbid, but you would have been happy just moments before.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families.

If you were to die on Disney property, it would be a pretty painful death!

I am sure there must be more. I once saw an elderly man in a wheelchair who appeared to have passed away at the Boardwalk. Disney is so HUGE - millions of guests, 60k cast members. The odds are that some people will die there.

Agreed, and these two deaths weren't related at all.

I can see investigating the 1st death, since it was in a
restricted area. This most recent one, well, people
fall everyday... just usually don't die from falls, so it
might be health related. I can see the 1st death
being a possible news item, but this next one, yeeesh.
C'mon not every death is something that should be a
News item, just out of respect for the family.

When something happens at Disney, it seems everything else is magnified. Like when there were a couple of issues at Downtown Disney. All of a sudden, any little thing happening at DD was reported.

The ride accident should have been reported (IMHO). But people fall all the time - in their bathtubs, down stairs, etc. I know someone who is in great health who ended up hurt very badly after falling down two small steps a couple of months back. But channel 4 was NOT there. I couldn't believe she got so hurt on 2 stairs. She was out of work for 2 weeks.

I feel terribly for the family. I can't imagine going to the MK, maybe gearing up for the fireworks or castle lights, and having a family member fall and die. I think it'd be a while before I went back to the park.

The story is rather vague. No details at all were included. Not even CoD (which is likely related to the fall).

I mnow that this may be getting a little to into it but technically, no one has ever died on Disney property. Even if it is something obvious....well, I won't explain.

Recently, I have been reading of several inccidents endangering a person's life on property. They happen all the time, much more often than we think. I know of a couple ugly vehicular incidents one of which involved a LifeFlight extraction.

Sad, but true for all areas populated by humans.

Was almost 3... My wife fractured a bone in her foot at the Electric Umbrella in Epcot when she missed a step and developed blood clots as a result during our last trip. The clots moved to her lungs and she was winded on the last day and became severe on the flight back and we rushed to the hospital upon landing. Had we stayed a few more days she may not have made it...she was diagnosed with double pulmonary embolisms. Not Disney's fault except for sending us to the Centracare vrs sending her to the ER for proper diagnosis/treatment. She could have been much more mobile and possibly avoided the issue and had more fun on the vacation but just goes to show even simple little accidents can have severe side effects even death.

Plenty have... its urban legend that none have or that Disney shuffles people off-property to protect that image.

Unless you are trying to split hairs over when a doctor declares the person dead.
