Woman arrested trying to bring loaded gun into MK

Police: Woman Tried To Bring Loaded Gun, Knife Into Disney's Magic Kingdom
.32-Caliber Semi-Automatic Handgun Loaded With 7 Rounds, Police Say

    POSTED: 4:05 pm EST December 9, 2007
    UPDATED: 4:17 pm EST December 9, 2007

A 63-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after sheriff's deputies said she tried to enter Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom theme park with a loaded gun, some scissors and a knife.

Security workers said they discovered a .32-caliber semi-automatic handgun on Mary Ann Richardson, of Pennsylvania, during a routine safety check at a theme park entrance gate.

Walt Disney World security notified the Orange County Sheriff's Office and officer confiscated the gun and arrested the Richardson.

Officers said the gun was loaded with seven live rounds in the magazine.

The woman was also in possession of a pair of scissors and a locked blade knife.

Richardson told officers that she traveled with the gun and had forgotten it was in her purse, according to an Orange County sheriff's report. An investigation into the incident continues.

Stringent security measures have been in place at all Central Florida theme parks since Sept. 11, the report said.

Richardson was charged with possession of a concealed weapon.
Well at least the security checks found something wonder how many they may not find.

Just what we want... loaded handguns flying around on rides that could accidentally be dropped or go off - brilliant!

it wasn't hidden if she forgot it was in her purse. I wouldn't, but if I wanted to take a gun in it would be on my person. They never check and there are no metal detectors.

Ok, I was at MK today and I just want to go on record and say it wasn't me....or my mother. :P

However, I am glad they caught the gun, not something I would want walking around the parks but that's me.

did she have a permit to carry a concealed weapon? just the gun would be bad enough but a gun, scissors and tape... sounds a bit fishy to me.

I wonder also if she was permitted. I am sure there are plenty of carry-conceal licensed guns in the park every day. Holstered, not in a purse.

I would assume not - since she got charged with carrying a concealed weapon

Regardless of the woman's intentions, we can't have people walking around in the park with as many weapons as Rambo - especially when they are concealed.

Regardless of permits or rights - I just think its unsafe to be carrying a load weapon loose in a purse or whatnot while you are involved in physical activities that throw you and your belongings around.

Knife and scissors I'd wager were just her 'normal' bag kind of stuff. People carry pocket knives, etc. Forgetting where you put your gun though - is inexcusable.

Totally scary and someone brought up a good point
There aren't any metal detectors so if one is carrying it on their person no one would know

I don't consider scissors a weapon - nor really a knife either, that is something that people carry around as something just to use on a regular basis. I don't, but there are plenty of times when I could use a scissors or knife and don't have one handy. Anything can be a weapon - a fork, a rope, high heels - my tripod could probably cause some pain if I hit someone with it.

There are hundreds of thousands of concealed carry permits in Florida (as well as in other states), so it's not unlikely that there are quite a few guns at any time in the parks. It doesn't bother me, it's intent that does. But they should be secure - rolling around in a purse doesn't sound that way to me. And the woman would have needed a conceal carry permit.

my dad has carried a pocket knife ever since I could remember....and yeah, he brings it with him into the parks. I mean, it's a little thing....smaller than a roll of nickels.....knives like that...no biggie. AS for scissors...heck, it could have been those little dinky things that come in hotel sewing kits. Who knows?

the gun....is another story. THAT'S a bit scary. The article seems to be making her out as a vigilanti

They have let me into the parks with a small (sub 3" blade) lockblade. When my kids were young I used to bring a pack into the park. I forgot I had grabbed one I had used on a hike, and the security guard asked me to open an inner zip pocket. The knife didn't seem to faze him. The iodine tablets and for some reason the waterproof matches and space blanket seems to throw him a bit. Never know when you are going to get stranded in the MK for an extended period of time
