I may have misinterpreted someone's post on another board.
What the person said was that guests were being resort IDed at the monorail. Most likely, this meant that either transportation was open only to resort guests or Guest Relations was trying to prevent people from going to MK.
I know that last year, Guest Relations did something similar.
Anyway, EPCOT's capacity is up around 85,000 I believe. That is an absurd amount of people.
They definitely may be trying to prevent anyone but onsite guests going to the MK.
I wasn't sure what Epcots capacity was, but I was told that MK was close to 60k or so, and Epcot a lot more. I can't even imagine Epcot ever closing first, with as many as it holds (and being that guests tend to gravitate to the MK).
We were at Epcot last New Years Eve and it was very busy as expected but we were able to get into the park with a parking space close to the entrance by 8 am. We easily got on Soarin, the seas with Nemo, Spaceship Earth, and got good fastpasses for Test Track before the park got very crowded. Later on after returning to Future World for our reservations at Garden Grill the park was extremely crowded with lines for the seas stretching out past The Land and an entire unorganized mob attempting at entering The Land for Soarin that we had to go through.
It was worth enduring the crowds though. We didn't even think of leaving to our hotel fearing they would not let us re enter. Turns out that they reverted guests to the studios parking lot so we were glad we didn't. Go early & have fun!
