Just for fun I would like to know what everyone thought of the Disney Worlds when they were 13.

What did you like about the parks?
    What was your favorite Ride?

Re: When you were 13 what did you think of the Disney Parks?

    I will go first.

I loved that Disney World was away from everything. Before Gaylord, and the premium outlets, and a lot of stuff that has sprung up, it seemed like you were coming out of the swamps, to this glistening world of Magic!

My favorite ride was Alien EncouTerror! because it made my sisters cry! Sure I screamed like a little girl, but I loved seeing my sisters crying hysterically because they thought they were going to die!

My favorite show was the NONE of them! I didn't have time to waste on shows! I needed to ride things!

My Favorite experience, was meeting Doug Wolf. Learning about imagineering, and seeing Test Track being worked on from behind EPCOT was just fantastic!

My strongest memory was a Cast Member at HISTA who told us that he worked for the imagination institute, and that he loved the study of imagination. He told us that he lived there in the glass pyramid with all the other scientists, and that they were on to some pretty amazing break throughs!

Things have changed! My tastes have changed! Now I love shows, and people watching, I take the parks a bit slower, and after working for Disney sometimes it takes some work to allow yourself to be submereged in the reality that is the parks.

I love them, and I hope to pass this tradition on to my children some day!

When I was 13 they only had the MK. So all this comparison between WDW and DL was even more poignant back then than now.

Unfortunately because of this the MK was a much better park than it is now. Now that all the other parks have been built the MK IMO has been a little bit neglected. Hopefully the HM refurb is a sign of a renaissance for that park.

Re: When you were 13 what did you think of the Disney Parks?

What did you like about the parks? I was excited to go, but was bored and annoyed once I got there.

What was your favorite Ride? The skyway peter pan and POTC.

What was your favorite show? I didn't watch the shows

What was your favorite experience? I loved when it got dark and the crowds thinned out, seeing the park lit up. It was my favorite time, but this is a thing of the past now.

What is your strongest memory? Is being frustrated by the crowds, hurting feet, and not wanting to stand in lines.

I stopped going to DL once I was 15. I did not go back until my child was 3. So, about an 8 year hiatus.

(this is in regards to DL didn't notce the WDW forum and disney parks I guess means all of them.?.)

Okay - it's sort of hard to separate my mid-teen years, but I'll try.

I liked Space Mountain, a LOT. I used to get there really early, and go on it a bunch of times before the park got crowded. Then I'd stand on line for an hour to ride again. And I liked the Wedway and If You Had Wings. I'm not sure when they stopped doing the ticket books, but If You Had Wings was free!

Space Mountain, If You Had Wings - favorite. I liked the Star Jets too.

I don't remember too many shows back then. There was this really cute CM singer who sang songs like - Barry Manilow type songs, so I watched him often for a year or two. Did I mention he was cute?

I had a lot of very good experiences. I will say that during my mid-teens, I always left the house kicking and screaming (not quite literally, but close) because I was "too old" for Disney. I was happy to be there upon arrival, though! Back around that time, we'd gone off property for the day - did the Hall of Fame (or whatever it was called!) I got chosen for that (videotaped, etc.), and met a couple of guys there who I hung out with for a bit. They probably were a couple of years older. I happened to run into them later at the Polynesian - small world - and they were acting kind of odd. So I was like, what are you guys doing, smoking p*t? (I don't know what I can say here!) They asked me how I knew. For some reason, that really sticks out in my mind. And I left them to do their thing.

We always did the Luau, otherwise we normally ate at the Tangaroa Terrace. And Disney was the only place I knew of that had frozen yogurt. I also spent an inordinate amount of time in the Contemporary game room playing pinball. I am sure they used to have a movie theater too. It was the BEST place. And the resorts used to have german chocolate danishes. Yum. They stopped that maybe 10 years ago.

    Too many memories!

Actually. Not really, I didn't care about Disneyland or DCA or any of this stuff. It wasn't until the 50th and hearing about how HUGE the celebration was going to be from my brother and hearing him describe the nee fireworks and the pagentrys that I looked more into the parks, then I got hooked.

    !
You were 13 when Alien Encounter was around? We had no Big Thunder Mountain, no Splash Mountain...I have no idea what was even on that side of the park! Nothing, I guess. We did have the Main Street Cinema, and the game room on Main Street (I was a huge fan of game rooms, I still love DisneyQuest and air hockey).

Yes, you did! I must have been nearly 30 then when it opened. I didn't like Alien Encounter, it scared me too much. As such, I have never done Stitch.

You will get there - don't speed it up that fast! As a friend of mine (who posts here) says to me, you still have many E-tickets in your future!

I didn't goto a Disney Park until I got to age 18. So, just wanting to goto a Disney Park was one of things I really wanted to do, under at the age 18 (including age 13). Because I loved Disney and parks looked so wonderful.

I was in happy tears to be at the Disney park (WDW) . Especially when a band started playing "When you wish upon a Star", my mind kept replaying 'I made it' . I couldn't believe I made it and was happy to do the things I wanted to do, even when I was a little girl. Such as riding the Flying Dumbo or IASW. Meeting Donald Duck (I did want to see Dumbo too. He was also a want see as a little girl. But no such luck) and of course seeing Mickey Mouse.

    Thank you for asking.
