Could Mammoth DNA Bring New Life To Animal Kingdom?

A frozen, almost perfectly intact and preserved 37,500 year old Siberian baby mammoth was recently found by a reindeer herder in Russia. It even has fur. The mystery enshriuding the extinction of the species could finally be resolved. One idea that scientists are mulling over is to see if it's possible to extract DNA from carcass tissue and combine this with elephant DNA in order to create a hybrid spiecies.

If you ask me, this would be one hck of a long shot. Still if Disney imagineers and scientists were to get involved in such a project, it could end up with it's own living, breathing "Jurassic Park". DAK actually would be a new species of theme park. Look out Universal! ...

Sweet indeed, Melonballer. Today's fast paced, ever advancing world of scientific technology can accomplish astounding things that were not even dreamt of a decade ago. This lucky find can potentially be significant in helping us to better understand the world around us, and in many different ways. The little mammoth is an absolute Godsend!

This is really super cool news. I love reading stuff like this because one would think that we know all we know about our past and nothing else can come out to change it. Wrong! dinosaur fossils are being dug up left and right. It's amazing! It's such a fun time right now for discovery.

As for a hybrid, it might work. But I don't know if it's enough for an Animal Kingdom attraction. Though I think Animal Kingdom should definitely put a bit more into the park regarding animals of the past.

Thanks to yo enthusiasm, genetic engineering of the Whaley Mammoth has started. This is going to be such a fun creature - drenching people with water coming from both it's trunk and it's blow hole!

Maybe Disney could do a Holiday overlay of Dinosaur! Instead of getting the iguanadon you would go back in time to get the Mamoth, and instead of a meator you were being chased by a great freeze and some cavemen!

Very true, Coheeboy. Animal Kingdom could offer much more in the realm of animals of the past. Dinoland's Dinosaur dark ride, a couple of carney rides and a pretend fossil pit just doesn't get it. Disney needs "edutainment" oriented attractions that would be fun, yet intellectually stimulating where extinct creatures are concerned.

I think that people everywhere would come to a park in order to see cloned or hybrid Wooley Mammoths.

An almost fully intact ancient creature of this nature is phenominal - magical indeed!

It would be very cool if they did a nice calm version of Kilimanjaro's Safari Dinosaur version (nothing going wrong, no accidents), and the top would be a real live Mammoth!
