It's probably less WDI going downhill and more Jay Rasulo being cheap and out of touch.

Yeah Jay Rasulo sucks, is he ever going to get fired? Watch Disneyland: Secrets, Stories, and Magic, and you will see how evil he truly is.

Yeah. I saw it. He was completely nauseating. Why anybody would put him as the figurehead of Parks and Resorts is beyond me - he comes off as the most unwelcoming person ever. Just the way he speaks comes off as really fake and sometimes harsh.

I got that impression as well. The least sincere interviewee of the entire movie.

Why doesn't Disney get its successful book/movie franchise, The Chronicles of Narnia, in the parks and give Harry some real competition?
Anyone remember my thread - NARNIA: The next land at Disneyland?

http://www.micechat.com/forums/showt...ghlight=Narnia

I thought it could go in place of Discovery Bay / WRE.

Somehow I was surprised at the backlash. That was before the first movie came out and nobody knew what kind of Franchise Disney had on it's hands.

That's too positive. How about, Jay Rasulo was so insincere he made Micheal Eisner look like the most sincere man alive.

I may be tempting flames here, but now that the movie has come out and the sequel's on its way, it still doesn't look like that much of a franchise, at least nothing to compete with Harry Potter.

Disney may not own the rights to Narnia outside of producing the movies. The rights to the books and characters would be separate. Plus the covert Christian message may not be acceptable in these offend no one times.

I would not worry too much. With the events of the seventh book being sub-par, we have nothing to fear. The worst Star Wars films are great compared to the seventh book.
Besides with a new Star Trek movie out in '08, I expect a ressurgence in Sci-Fi.

I totally agree. While Narnia is a nice family oriented film, it in NO WAY compares to the true blockbuster films like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter or Star Wars. I can’t really conceive of any real sci/fi-fantasy fan accepting the level of quality and intensity (or lack of) that Narnia attempts as coming anywhere near the depth that those other franchises achieve.

I agree here. Narnia does not translate to the screen as well as some people might've hoped. I personally love the books, and find them to be some great modern literature. But their core ideas are deep and understated; far more philosophical and emotional in nature than the epic struggles between good and evil that translate so well to the cinema. while many kids love the narnia movie right now, i'll bet far less of them have read the series than the HP series, and it's probably not for lack of trying. narnia was unable to hold my attention as a kid, simply because it was too mature for me. i liked the couple of books my mother read to me, but upon a reread as a teenager, i realized that before, i didn't understand them very well.

i don't think it would translate very well to the theme park either. with narnia, as opposed to harry potter and lord of the rings and star wars, the setting is less defined or immersive and plays a smaller part in the overall ideas and actions in the book. to make narnia work on screen, it had to be simplified from the books as far as story and ideas go, and amplified in the art direction department. this would have to be taken to the farthest extreme to create an actual theme park world, which would be almost entirely setting based, and i think lovers of the books would be disappointed (and far more so than normal when other books are adapted).

sub- par?????? THAT BOOK WAS AMAZING!! what are you talking about dude?? Have you read it?? the only bad thing about it was the epilouge(sp)

sorry guys, but i'd go for HP over ST any day. I still realy think that Disney would do HP a lot more justice than Universal. This is just dissapointing, I love harry potter and disney.

That was probably the only room appropriate enough for your sentiments for Jay Rasulo.

Disneyland probably won't have to worry about Potterland since they're on opposite coasts. USH probably doesn't have enough room for a Potterland, unless they want to do forcefit it into the existing infrastructure.

All of the Potter rides sound like thrill rides. Families who go to IOA may find that all they can do is walk around the place if all the ride attractions have height and physical restrictions.
