Ah, I see. That's definitely going to be one of the yardsticks its measured by, how well it doesn't just look but feels. That's always been my reservation for any attraction based on Lord of the Rings; capturing the thematic nuance of established franchises is one of the most problematic challenges of these ideas.

Yes, LOTR is just such a massive scale in many ways, it would be insanely expensive to capture anything remotely as big as those movies.

However, and this is coming from someone who hasn't seen the Harry Potter movies, I think Universal did quite a good job with the Jurassic Park themed land, that being one of the only ever themed lands based on a single movie franchise.

The Jurasic themed land and river ride thematically capture the feel of the film that it is based on to an amazing degree. I have every confidence that great attention to detail will be carried out in the execution of the archetectural features of Potter's magical world. One will notice nuances with each visit. The authenticity of feel will compare to that of the film to a degree that raises the bar.

Anything having to do with the Harry Potter park or the Star Tours revamp is completely on topic.

Anyway, here are some concept art renderings of the park. They have been released for a while. So, I imagine that most everyone's seen them already. Plus, I posted these in one of my earier threads. No rides other than a picture of the Hogwarts Express train engine have been released. I posted that in a previous thread as well. However, it has since been deactivated on YouTube by whom-ever it was that posted the concept art video there in the first place. Lips are so tight regarding the Harry Potter Park that it's downright agravating.

Nevertheless and again, here are some achetectural park renderings -

Well.....

Most of what you see in the movies is fake CGI. Lots of green and blue screen stuff. Or do you really think that all those interior and exterior shots of the castle are real?

Re: Yoda To Battle Harry Potter In Theme Park Wars

harry potter at IOA will have a short term affect on disney. I mean disney may lose one day of visits to that park. really disney has four parks vs. two and frankly IoA needs something to give it''s attendance a boost. It's a shame really because it really is the best theme park in orlando theme wise. Diseny could learn a lesson from them. The studios needs an almost complete overhaul. SInce they aren't filming there, they could get rid of several buildings and backstage stuff and expand to a whole new land. A different land and they have their own wizzarding movies they could base attractions on if they so chose to do.

Nope. Of course, a great amount of the Potter interior and exterior shots are CGI. Same as many films these days - especially fantasy and sci-fi. It's amazing. Where I prefer realism is in the archetectural surroundings at a theme park. I very much look forward to strolling thru the thematic atmosphere that is to be created for Wizarding World.

I honestly think that a single ride upgrade is not going to be able to compete with a whole new land at IOA. Competition is good, but I really think that Disney trying to market ST2 as the answer to Harry Potter is futile. I Know I will try both of them but I am sure the HP world is just going to blow my mind when I see it, as opposed to ST2, that once you ride it a couple of times, it loses its luster.

A few more pictures having to do with the Harry Potter park.

hee hee

JK Rowling has given the green light to a Harry Potter theme park. Below, the author comments from July '07 on the park.

'Harry Potter' World coming to Florida
JK Rowling, who became the world's first billion-dollar author on the back of Harry Potter's success, has given the go-ahead for the creation of a Florida theme park dedicated to the schoolboy wizard.
"The plans I have seen look incredibly exciting and I don't think fans of the books or films will be disappointed," Rowling said of the Orlando park that is scheduled to open in 2009.
The park is a joint venture between Warner Bros Entertainment, whose Potter films have so far grossed more than $US3.5 billion worldwide, and Universal Orlando Resort.
In a statement, the builders of "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" said they planned to "create the world's first immersive Harry Potter themed environment."
Barry Meyer, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros Entertainment, said: "Over the years we've received thousands of letters from fans around the world wishing they could visit Hogwarts (School) and the wonderful locations described in each of JK Rowling's beloved stories."
The park's opening could help to quell the withdrawal symptoms of Potter fans around the globe who have bought 320 million copies of her wizard tales and turned every one of the films into a box office hit.
Pottermania is set to scale new heights in July with the last novel hitting the bookstands and the latest film being launched in a deluge of global publicity.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final instalment in her hugely successful series, is being released on July 21.
Rowling is to mark publication with a moonlight reading for fans at London's Natural History Museum.

I am just thrilled to have this much investment in the parks again! I am glad to see all this excitment surrounding Disney and Universal!

I personally do not think of them as competing. I think they both offer unique experiences and that one is not exchangable for the other.

I think this will allow visitors to keep returning to Orlando to have new and exciting experiences at both Universal and Disney... along with SeaWorld...

It's a good time to live in the World's Theme Park Capital!

Disney is updating ST2 not so much as to compete with Harry Potter, as it is planning to capitalize off of the giant attendance bump to the Orlando area due to Wizarding World. In turn, WWHP will benefit from ST2. The thing is that Disney may build a mini StarWars land of it's own at Hollywood Studios, and the StarTours name itself might be replaced by another ride moniker.

I do believe that this is the mindset among all of the Orlando area theme parks - primarily Universal, Disney and Sea World. Odds are that SW's Aquatica water park (opening later this year) will become one cool hot bed of activity as well.

Re: Yoda To Battle Harry Potter In Theme Park Wars

Let me just take a short soap box moment.

No doubt Harry Potter is a current phenomenon. No doubt for the next 5, 10 years after opening it will generate many guests at IOA.

But what keeps us going back to disney world? For me, it is not the attractions that are based on an 'existing franchise.' I go back for the items that are unique to the park.

I think disney should focus on creating new attractions that people will love as much as they do Space Mountain or the Haunted Mansion or the Jungle Cruise. Why does there need to be a tie-in? All that comes from that is that when the movie goes out of style, the attraction attracts less guests. Shouldn't attractions be timeless to a certain degree?

Sorry. I am just sick of all the good ideas to come out of imagineering not happen unless they can tie it to a franchise or movie.
