They are building a DVC wing to the Animal Kingdom Lodge...so that's my guess for what you see on GoogleEarth (I saw it too after someone pointed it out after the last GoogleEarth update in 2007).
No, the area I'm talking about is a bit too far from the lodge. I think the idea of it being a staging area for Everest makes more sense. It does look at bit like a junk yard in the current Google earth image.
"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect."
That area is where Everest stands today as previously mentioned.
No, that's not so...Everest is more to the southeast. See the image below. I was wrong about the construction being related to the lodge. I don't know what this construction is. It is in an awkward location for it to be a new land...not connected to the main hub or even to Asia from what I can see (it is on the far side of Kali River Rapids). With the considerable investment in AK in recent years (Everest, Nemo, Rivers of Light) I doubt they will be adding anything else too soon.
I had always assumed that a "savanna" view room at the AK lodge looked out at the same area that the Kilimanjaro safaris drive through.
Evidence would seem to contradict that assumption.
DAK Lodge has it's own Savanna and animals. If you could see the DAK Savanna then people who ride Kiliminjaros would be able to see you, and that would be just horrible! So luckily Disney forked out the extra money and built that beautiful hotel with all those wonderful extra features!
