Skipping work and going to WDW for a day

I don't think I've ever skipped school in my life, but at age 40, I thought it was worth it.

Early on Thursday morning, I drove up from Miami and got to Epcot before the 9:00 AM opening - after checking in to the All Star Movies resort.

It was great to see Spaceship Earth open again. I liked the new additions.

I should skip work more often. There were very little crowds. Maybe it was also because it a was bit drizzly, but the weather didn't seem to bother anyone.

I saw lots of the major Future World attractions in very little time and also saw the exhibit about Epcot's 25th Anniversary. I was underwhelmed, but loved the models.

I stayed at the All Star Movies Resort. It was okay, but the price was great ... $49 a night. You can't beat that!

This was adorable. Even though it's a value resort, there is still great theming.

In the afternoon, I went to the Magic Kingdom.

City Hall was being refurbished. The tarp did a great job of hiding the work.

On my way to Frontierland I saw these birds again. Seems like they've taken up residence there.

Splash Mountain was also being refurbished.

Big Thunder ... always a great ride.

I thought the Haunted Mansion was a great ride before. With the new enhancements, it's even better!!! I loved the bride in the attic ... "I do ...
    I DID!!!"

I'd never seen this sign before.

Was the pet cemetery always here?

While the beautiful birds are in Frontierland, killer attack seagulls are in Fantasyland. Disney should really do something about these pests.

    Beautiful Cinderella's Castle.

    So peaceful!

    Liberty Square's rest area.

I hadn't seen this show in ages. It needs a little plussing. Maybe a woman's touch.

Now it's time to say goodbye. See you all next time!

Looks like you had a great time! I did skip work once that I can remember, many years ago, to go to Disney (like 11 years ago).

And the Fantasyland Seagulls are terrible, I won't eat ice cream and walk anymore.

Remember, work is to support your play. I always am quick to point out that my job merely maintains my Disney habit!

Whenever I go to the park, I do play hookey. I have to--I'm a teacher and I'm using my time to escape. If I do it in the summer, so do thousands of families. That's fine, but it's not exactly an escape (for me). So I go during the school year. I save up the hours needed and use them.

Glad you had a good time!

    Peace,

    Great pics Mike!

Actually the one and only time I ever called in "sick" I was supposed to work the day before leaving for Florida. Instead I changed my flight to get an extra day at WDW

Great pics! I wish I lived close to something like WDW or DLR that would make taking a day off worth it!

Will trade husband for Disneyland and DCA Pins!

If I didn't live so far away from Orlando I certainly would. 4 1/2 hours is a bit too far of a drive for just one day though. Its my goal to one day live near enough to Disney to go anytime I want.

Re: Skipping work and going to WDW for a day

When I was a junior in high school our marching band went to Disney and the Citrus Bowl competition and parade over Christmas break.

Then my parents and brother picked me up and while the rest of my friends had to ride the bus back to Ohio and go back to school, my family spent another week at Disney world with my grandma and all of my aunts, uncles and cousins. It was a blast! I guess it was an "excused absense" though as we were on a family vacation.

Not sure, but I do know some WDW employees who skipped work to go to Universal.
