Re: can somebody tell me what this is?

The Pop Century resort was originally going ot be built as 2 separate resorts, much like the All Star Resorts or Dixie Landings/Port Orleans. The first half built was the Classic Years, the 1950-1990s. The second half, the Legendary Years, was going to be constructed after. However, with the downward spiral of tourism and declining hotel occupancies, the Legendary side was put on hold indefinitely. The shells of the buildings are still there across the lake, but there is no real access to the "lost" resort.

There are rumors every now and then that they will be build as family suites, but no official word from Disney yet.

    Thanks!

They ought to theme them after classic attractions in the park. Make one a Hautned Mansion building, another the jungle cruise, another space mountain, etc.

They could all be themed like that, and I guarnatee a sellout!

disney was in the process of finishing the first section and then 911 happened. not only was the opening of pop century postponed but if I remember right, carribean beach was shuttered as well then Port orleans was combined into one resort. with the popularity of DVC, disney really doesn't need anymore "regular" hotel rooms on property.

Pop Century opened in 2003. There's a half finished bridge called the Generation Gap bridge that was supposed to connect the Classic Years to the Legendary Years. You can walk on the bridge to the halfway point, then it's blocked off with bushes and you can see they never finished it.

These are pics I took a few weeks ago:

thank you. I was going to ask why it wasn't finished.
Such a shame. There is real potential for it.
It also makes me sad because so many people have no capacity for anything before the 50s and this would, in some sense, be helpful.

    I agree.

I'm a fan of the 20's myself, I always feel I was a flapper in a former life.

It's very sad they could not open that part of the hotel yet. Hopefully, business will pick up soon.

Yup! I think it is a travesty of show and style for WDW to have this ghetto ghost complex sitting there decaying in plain view of guests, where it can obviously be accessed by foot. It's a further shame they did not finish this project, instead choosing to start unneeded new ones... like the new hotels now going up on property elsewhere.
BAD show at WDW, but again, they excel at doing just that.

Yeah they do, don't they? I agree those abandoned buildings are an eyesore and totally creepy. Yet I couldn't stop staring at them a few weeks ago. Took me forever to tear myself away and walk across the bridge so I could get some dinner at the food court.
