Post EPCOT Center - Vintage Map

So this past weekend a large new addition graced the wall...

Joining my two Tomorrowland prints from the Disney Gallery is a bona fide piece of Disney history- a 1982 EPCOT Center wall map.

As far as I know, the map was printed and sold in 1982 and later. It was not given to guests, but sold as a souvenir. There is also one of these maps hanging in the Epcot 25 exhibit in Innoventions. Beyond that I don't know much of the history of it, and if anybody does know, I'd love to hear it.

The map is approximately 30" by 40" in size. It was custom framed with museum UV-protected plexiglass, with acid-free backing.

So let's take a look around, shall we?

Here is FutureWorld, in all it's original (and non-Leave A Legacy) glory. There's the iconic Spaceship Earth, which would have been narrated by Vic Perrin in those days I believe. Also present of course is Communicore.

Moving on to Future World East (unlike most Disney maps, because of the way Epcot was oriented North is always down in it's maps):

There's the original Universe of Energy, and the World of Motion sponsored by General Motors.

While Horizons is pictured, it wasn't yet open...

Moving on to Future World West...

We've got Journey Into Imagination, with it's attraction of the same name starring Dreamfinder and Figment. There's also the Magic Eye theater, which I believe would have been playing Magic Journeys.

Though The Living Seas is pictured, it was listed as "future"...

Having explored Future World, we move on to World Showcase...

We'll start our tour of World Shocase by heading to Canada...

Notice what is now known as the International Gateway area, with a waterway that I don't believe led anywhere yet.

Notice also Morocco, which is also listed as "Future"...

Continuing around past The American Adventure...

As we continue around to the last leg of our journey around World Showcase, you'll notice the absence of Norway but the presence of another pavilion...

    Yes that's right, Equatorial Africa.

Interestingly this area is still unoccupied, but does feature a small African themed area.

And so that completes our circa-1982 journey around Epcot.

I leave you with one final thought...

I very vaguely remember this map from my first visit to Epcot. I always loved World of Motion.

I probably have this hidden away in a box in my closet. It's cool that you display it.

    I noticed.

Great map C33! As soon as I saw it I thought of the 25th exhibit too. Hopefully someone will jump in with some more history to the park. hint, hint - paging TDLFAN?

That's really cool. So I'm guessing Wonders of Life wasn't around back then? Does anybody know when this pavillion was added?

As I mentioned, I had it custom-framed. Expensive, but totally worth it!
