Sad Is there really a mold problem at the Grand Floridian?

Saw this disturbing story on Google News:
    http://www.prweb.com/releases/2008/03/prweb741164.htm

Anyone know how widespread this is at the GF? The photos certainly seem authentic, and mold is not an easy fix...

    Hmmm.

I stayed in the main building at the GF ten days ago and saw no signs of mold anywhere (and I did not smell anything either).

Mold is a problem everywhere in FLA.

It needs to be dealt with on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, most housekeepers are busy making towel animals instead of cleaning.

Wow ... that's terrible, but it can happen anywhere.

yeah, like the last two people said..mold is a problem everywhere. Esp. places that have hurricanes on a regular basis. I worked at a hotel in hurricane central and it was a constant battle against mold. Usually it's a type of mold that won't really hurt anyone. Finding the dreaded "black mold" is rare. And even that kind (I have been told by health authorities) is only harmful to people with allergies or asthma.

Re: Is there really a mold problem at the Grand Floridian?

Come on people, this is Florida, Disney is built on former swampland and it rains more days out of the year than not. Mold is a common problem anywhere in the state of Florida. The fact of the matter is, this is Disney, so news organizations blow it all out of proportion.

If this were the Grand Cypress or the Marriott World Center or even the Peabody on International Drive, you would not hear anything about it. But because it happened to be spotted at Disney's Grand Floridian, the news media thinks the hotel should be shut down.

The incident was very very small and the hotel has taken the necessary precautions to eradicate the problem.

If you read the article carefully it also says "recent hurricane activity" the last time a hurricane came through the area was in 2005, almost 3 years ago and that was really nothing compared to 2004 when the resort was hit by 3 hurricanes.

Fact of the matter is this, whenever anything, no matter how minor, happens at Disney, the news media blows it all out of proportion.

I don't believe it. I have stayed there in the past and have seen no evidence whatsoever.

    I'm a little skeptical.

    This isn't a news article. It's a press release.

And who released this press release? The mold mitigation company mentioned in the article. Not the most un-biased point of view.

    And .....

Anybody notice this in the article

A local cab driver suggested that recent hurricane activity has left the popular tourist destination with a serious water intrusion problem, possibly the source of the mold infestation.

Let me put that in bold for you; a local cab driver.

Well that cinches it people. It's common knowledge that to become a cab driver, one must first take extensive training in not only mold infestation, but hurricane behavior and water intrusion problems in commerical properties.
