    Excitement Building Over Expedition Everest

ORDDU: No doubt there are many of you ducklings out there who are just out of control with anticipation over the idea of riding this newest roller coaster. Do any of you have plans to be there for the grand opening? My sisters and I would be surprised to hear otherwise.

ORWEN: What I want to know is how tall this newest mountain will be? And how does it compare in size to Disneyland's Matterhorn? After all, a cauldron girl can't be too careful when trying to plan safe flight patterns with her broom stick--if she wants to make sure she clears the tallest peak without incident...

ORGOCH: Like as if yer sorry broomstick was strong 'nuff ta lift that fat butt a yers more 'n five inches off'n the ground, sister!!

CAN'T WAIT!! - But in saying that myself, by the time I get over there from OZ to ride, WdW will prol have a few more E-tickets built!

ORWEN - In answering your question, Everest is (I think!) about 160 ft at the Peak of the mountain but that is a TOTAL guess (I am pretty sure I read that figure somewhere) so yeah around twice the height of the Matterhorn anywho... WOW This is going to be such a cool ride!

You sold it short! It's acually 199 feet tall, not including the fact it's on a small hill. It's not 200 because if it was it would have to have a blinking red light for planes. That's why ToT is 199 too...

I can't wait myself, I can't make it down for opening (don't know when that'll be), but it has really spiked my interest in AK again.

Re: Excitement Building Over Expedition Everest

I am very excited about EE. It is going to be the tallest, fastest, biggest, baddest mountain in a Disney park. I mean, going over 50mph with 80ft drops going both fowards and backwards...how can you not be excited. This also looks to be one of the most detailed mountains ever (and the village is also cool).

As for opening date, no one can plan to be there simply because there is no official date. The popular date seems to be April 22nd (which would coincide with Earth Day and Animal Kingdom's 8th birthday).

As for comparing EE to Materhorn...well...EE is to Materhorn as Mission:Space is to Star Tours.

Re: Excitement Building Over Expedition Everest

Here are a few number comparisons...

    Heightwise...
EE is 16' larger than MK's Space Mountain
EE is 52' larger than the Matterhorn
EE is 81' larger than DL's Space Mountain
    Trackwise...
    EE's track reaches 112' while MK's SM's only reaches 90' and Matterhorn's only reaches 80'.
EE goes 50mph while DL's SM only goes 30mph and the Matterhorn only goes 18mph
EE's largest drop is 80' while DL's SM is only 15' (yes, that's not a typo)

All these numbers are found in Wikipedia

The themeing on this ride looks incredible. Backwards drops? Giant Yeti(s)? Wow. That why I like Animal Kingdom. I hope this ride will be the answer to animal kingdoms problems.

Why can't DCA have something like this? It could be themed to Big Bear or Yosemti. They could put a version of Big Foot in it.

Apparently, according to WDWmagic, the train has actually begun testing on the tracks; not just a pull through, but full runs. Now the excitement and anticipation are really rising!!

I believe 1stStarIC2nite meant they need a premium pass to see the video on WDWMagic.

Re: Excitement Building Over Expedition Everest

Wow! Backwords and forwards drops, sounds like a very complicated rollercoaster system, sounds fun. I would have never guessed the mountain was that tall, in pictures it looks actually 'smaller' than the matterhorn, I guess you can't always trust pictures.

I hope I make it to WDW sometime in my life to ride it

p.s. Askmike1, the reason EE is so much taller than the space mountain building is because almost half of the ride is a a few stories under ground.
