<<The petting zoo is gone ?????>>

    Sadly, yes.

First Minnie Moo died years ago. Then, they stopped letting people get in with the goats. Then, the lawyers came in and said that wasn't enough and put a second fence around all the enclosures to keep people from touching 'petting' the critters. Then, all the wild peacocks that had been there since opening either died, were killed or moved away. Finally, they removed all the animals except the ponies sometime last year.

On my last visit, I actually watched as a nasty CM yelled at a family for petting a pony. When they said 'isn't this a petting zoo?' She replied 'No, this is for pony rides.' Forget that Disney didn't take the signs down.

I wanted to tell her to go have a magical day, but instead I said loudly that if the ponies wished to be petted, I'd oblige since the signs said it's a petting zoo, which is what it had been since the early 70s, and if anyone had a problem they were welcome to call a lead.

She pretended she didn't hear me and walked away.

but the place has been ruined ... much like River Country, it is deserted and feels empty.

First, it's on the monorail line and close to MK
Second, it has the whole "Mickey & Friends" gang
Third, the characters seem to stay at each table longer than other character-breakfast places
Fourth, it has great views of the MK if you sit by the windows
Last, it is the best breakfast place in WDW (my opinion)
Agreed...my favorite also. Love the high energy, it's a great way to start the day..

I must say I walked thru there a couple of weeks ago and saw the ponies. There was no CM there but they did have signs that said don't pet the ponies. The lawyers advised it in all likelihood because of increased insurance costs

Hmmmm... I may have to book myself a breakfast there on my next trip (maybe the day I head for home so I don't lose precious park time).

always an important consideration, but you are just a skip away from MK and not to far from the Epcot monorail

[quote=mikeland;2823009]I've been to a few of the breakfasts and I liked the Crystal Palace a lot.

I also want to mention the breakfast at the Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge - those servers can be characters in their own way!

i couldn't agree with you more! Whispering Canyon is the best! We always have to eat breakfast every time we go!

I'd have to say... a tie between Chef Mickey's and Cape May Cafe, although I'm leaning more towards Cape May since it has more of a relaxed atmosphere... no obnoxious napkin waving and singing, kids screaming (If you're not with kids this is annoying...lol), plus the food is slightly better if I remember correctly, although it's mostly the same.

You know what? You're probably right. You wanna know something else?

It's still a load of pony turd.

There's something called 'The Cost of Doing Business' and that means Disney will often get sued (many times with little or no merit, sometimes deservingly so).

That petting zoo was a wonderful part of FW since 1972.

I doubt the amount of lawsuits based on the critters is any higher now then it was 20 years ago.

I do think Disney saved a load of money by shipping the animals over to DAK (much like they did with CBR and Poly's and EPCOT's parrots and flamingos).

And now they've made the location all about bringing in revenue with pony rides.

I find it all quite disgusting and yet another example of how totally out of touch WDW management can be -- and usually is.

Maybe they should have kiddy games in that area to amuse the ponies.
