Question Does Anyone Remember - Indian Burial Site?

the Indian burial site they had along the shore of Rivers of America? I distinctly remember a burial site with the dead on stilts. I remember riding the Mark Twain at night and it was really creepy to me, but then I was only 7 or 8. When did they get rid of this?

Re: Does anyone remember

The last time I remember seeing it was in the late '70s for sure, but it could have been there longer.

Re: Does Anyone Remember - Indian Burial Site?

Hey Kwgrlup:
Just saw your question about the Indian Burial; although I do not know why it was removed, I do have a few good pics of it:

This is my earliest pic, from August 1958, and the most recent one is from 1969. You can see a few more on my Rivers of America page:

Hope that helps!

Re: Does Anyone Remember - Indian Burial Site?

If you're referring to the body on the left in green, that is supposed to be an indian; thus, indian burial site.

I think they removed the last bits of it when DL started doing Fantasmic.

Thumbs up Rivers of America

wow, I am sorry I missed this, but I guess it was before my time. There is so much cool stuff on the Rivers of America, or at least there was. Unfortunately it is probably the most picked on attraction when it comes to closures or changes. Thanks for all your info and your great sight Davelandweb!

Which part of the river was this near? What is in its place now?

For me it's sad to see these details disappear. We can't sugar coat and politically correct the way things were. For me this shows the traditions of some native north Americans. It's like living history. It's a shame these have disappeared (Wheres my skull rock? and those falls that used to be on the banks of River of America?)

And for us Big Ten fans, last week saw the final performance of Chiek Illiniwek at the University of Illinois. I knew one co worker who was the Chief for two years in the 80's. He was 50% American Indian and said that they were held to such strict rules and regs re: respect for what they were doing that he was so proud to be a part of it. However the PC crowd killed that off now -- as well as the hypocrits at the NCAA -- Every time I see the Seminole Brave ride out on his horse at FSU, I will be wondering what contribution was made to what fund by FSU that makes him politically correct and Chief Illinwek incorrect ?

Re: Does Anyone Remember - Indian Burial Site?

That looks so cool...shame that so much of the interesting tidbits along the river have been eradicated or are dilapidated.
