October 24, 2008: Disney Afternoon Characters

It's time for a counter-service character breakfast in Yester-Fantasyland. Let's see who the characters are here.

Re: October 24, 2008: Disney Afternoon Characters

Don Karnage was spotted at DCA last weekend. I love it when they pull a costume out of mothballs.

Thanks for the article. It's really cool to see characters that you do nto see often or at all anymore. I have never sen a Beagle Boy before. I'd be curious to see if Yesterland has pics of characters like Oliver, Ratigan and Basil

They also have Gepetto out occasionally near Fantasyland in the dwarf fountain area. I saw him there last Thursday, October 16th.

That's funny...we did a character breakfast with Minnie in the park in March and my girls met both Gepetto and Rafiki.

We saw both Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear Friday. They were entertaining guests in the Splash Mountain queue. It was nice to seem them out and about.

Ok Werner you had me going for a minute with that Geppetto thing. But you know it's not so far off from Baloo, Shere Khan, Bagheera and others wearing clothes in Tale Spin. And it's not so far off considering what Michael Eisner was capable of. I do wish they would bring out a bigger variety of characters. I remember when Snow White was accompanied by all the 7 Dwarfs, but I guess there's a big payroll cost there. Werner, you should post pictures of all the old costumes, like the ones from opening day to the 60's. Some of them were, well, awful! But interesting. I actually preferred Mad Hatter as a rubber head, although the face one can interact with people. Hope you can find some.

You can still find Gepetto, Genie & Rafiki at WDW. They're quite common in FL.

We actually spotted several seldom seen villainous characters at DCA on the 6th...Don Karnage, The Queen of Hearts, Frollo and one other I don't recall off the top of my head (sorry, I'd have to check the pix). We also spotted Cruella DeVil at DL that same day; doesn't seem we usually see her unless there's a Dalmatian-related film due for release.

Re: October 24, 2008: Disney Afternoon Characters

Ah, the power of suggestion. For a few seconds, I actually thought I remembered a Geppetto's Adventure Squad. Then I remembered, more accurately, that I'm a gullible chump.

I have some very fond memories of the Disney Afternoon and its soundtrack and would love to see some of the characters so I could add them to my photo collection. We went once during the DA promotion, and I did collect some autographs but then left them underneath my seat after a showing of Plane Crazy. We went back as soon as I realized they were missing, but the janitor just shook his head and told me it was best to move on. Sad times.
