February 6, 2009 - Triton's Garden

Even though you're human, King Triton invites you to visit his garden. You may even have a chance to snap a photo with his daughter and to get her autograph.
Link to Triton's Garden
Please discuss it here.

I couldn't find any links to that Alpine Gardens that was mentioned. That sounds interesting. Also, there was no mention of how much Ariel's Grotto had gone downhill recently. I can't remember the last time those fountains worked.

For all of the times I went to DL while Ariel's Grotto was there, I never saw Ariel. And yet I know so many people who have pictures with her.

Re: February 6, 2009 - Triton's Garden

I actually like the Pixie Hollow better than Triton's Garden. I was not a fan of the Ariel statue and, while lovely, the water ponds looked like *ponds* and not the ocean. So it kind of ruined it for me. Meeting Ariel IRL, however, was great!

We visited the parks in mid-November, and I liked the way you are gradually led into the fairies' world through visual and auditory cues. I loved how it makes the Matterhorn really tower over you. I am not a fan of the long lines and the inevitable carts o' merchandise at the end of the meet & greet. And I thought the Tink we got to meet was a wee too tomboyish for me.

The copy editor in me is pulling hair over the whole fairies vs pixies thing. Pick. One! Can I just boot whomever in the marketing dept was responsible for that? Please? At least in arcade game form?

Overall, I prefer the wonder of the fairy world to a nice aquatic pool thing for Ariel. I am very glad Ariel is getting her own ride in DCA and hope we will get to meet & greet her in mermaid form over there as well.

A wish list for Pixie Hollow is to gradually incorporate some interative features (think Toon Town) that can enhance the experience. Maybe take an eco friendly angle and do some education about insects and plant life as well.

(and just for Barbossa -- may the Fork be with you! )

Re: February 6, 2009 - Triton's Garden

For the life of me I can't remember what the Alpine Gardens looked like. I stopped going in 1994 and didn't go back until May 1998 for Grad Nite. It wasn't until 2000 that I went back as a regular guest so I have a few gaps here and there of what we've lost.

First it was Winnie the Pooh, then it was the Princess Lineup, now it's the Pixies/Fairies and I really don't like it. Tinkerbell is not even a Disney-created character, they are trying to market that character as if she's Mickey Mouse and yet she was around LONG before the animated movie came along... of course, she was just a spot of light before that, but the underlying character was still there. No more pixie/fairy stuff until Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy are higher up in the marketing chain.

Alpine Gardens sounds better than what it was.

Essentially, it was the grounds of the Monsanto House of the Future, but with a merchandise stand instead of the plastic house. The name Alpine Gardens is probably due to the location near the Matterhorn.

I wish I had pictures, but I don't.

Re: February 6, 2009 - Triton's Garden

The "Alpine Gardens" may not have been much, but it looked nice at night with its multicolored sequencial floodlights. Its general appearance didnt scream "TIE-IN" as much as it's current appearance.

I'm amazed that the current incarnation isn't even lit up at night. It just looks like a frothing mess, IMHO.
