Re: June 26, 2009: Captain EO

I remember Capt EO very well. It was my first official date with my future wife. I was able to do 22 hours in the park before crashing.

Re: June 26, 2009: Captain EO

As I recall, Capt. Eo was the first and best of the movie-attractions. Even after repeated screenings, I never left disappointed. If only the subsequent movie-rides were as good...

Thank you Werner. Looking back at Captain EO is a very nice tribute to Michael.

We should try to get a petition going in response to Michael's death. It'd be great to bring this back, even if just for night-time showings. Thoughts?

It'll never happen. There's not enough else going on in the theater to compete with the modern "4D" experience.

Re: June 26, 2009: Captain EO

Thanks for those drawings of Tomorrowland before and after the Magic Eye Theater. I remember the old outdoor theater, although I didn't know that it was in the same place as the Magic Eye. In fact, I saw my first concert ever (The Association with the Stylistics) in that theater!

Cool memories of a great 3D show. Next stop - Youtube to relive the movie!

Re: June 26, 2009: Captain EO

The beginning of the show--with the giant 3-D asteroid floating in your face and then suddenly blowing up via laser ALWAYS freaked me out as a kid. I'd sit there, just waiting, waiting, here it comes, oh guess not, waiting, BOOM! Got me every time.

Re: June 26, 2009: Captain EO

Great pics and awesome to see the You Tube Video!! EO was a personal favorite of mine. This thread has become a great source to relive the attraction with.

We posted a small tribute podcast to MJ and Captain EO <-(direct mp3 link) this week; it's only audio, but still serves the nostalgic purpose.

Thanks for the memories guys!!

Re: June 26, 2009: Captain EO

With all the suggestions pouring in that this thing be revived just to commemorate him, one's gotta remember that it wasn't just a matter of putting some reels on a projector. Anyone who's seen it in the flesh (as I did a few hundred times - It was my first ride as a CM in 89-90) well they can tell you that watching it on YouTube just isn't the same at all. The theatre was built around the film. It would also be a matter of reinstalling a a couple million dollars worth of lasers, lights, fog machines and the sound system would likely have to be replaced if the last time I saw HISTA was any indicator of its health.

Oh and don't forget the major reprogramming of every last bit of technology in there. As stated before, it'll never happen. It just wouldn't be up to the park's standards.

I do wonder however just how many people will show up this weekend that haven't been to DL in ages solely to see it and simply don't know that the movie was pulled 12 years ago.

Re: June 26, 2009: Captain EO

I was a youngster when Captain Eo first arrived at DLand, but can still recall it fairly well. Thank you SO much for posting these. It was a great trip down memory lane.

And I agree with others who would also love a revival. To be able to tangibly relive a childhood experience and commerate a tragic loss, would be incredible. So ... bubble bursters, I will succumb to your reality.

I must say Michael Jackson's music had an innate ability to transcend cultural boundaries ... and color lines. He was truly a legend and will always be the "King of Pop!"

My heart goes out to his children ... R.I.P.
