December 4, 2009: DVD Review: The Secret Tour of Disneyland

Today, I have a favorable review of a DVD, The Secret Tour of Disneyland. There's also the story of what inspired the DVD and a how a rejection made the DVD much better than it might otherwise have been.

This was a very good review of this DVD that we purchased and also recommend.

But the review did not mention the really incredible part of this DVD, which is a visit inside Club 33. There was far more extensive coverage of the restricted and private club here than I've ever seen.

Fantastic! I just found my "Christmas present to me!" I can pretty much quote my Disneyland Secrets DVD, so this came just in time to save my sanity (and my wife's) Thanks for the heads up Werner!

If I'm not mistaken, the DVD aspect ratio issue could have been corrected by producing the DVD using the anamorphic standard. That's (except on BluRay and the defunt HDDVD) how the studios do it.

That aside, this looks like a fun virtual trip to the parks and informative to boot!

Re: December 4, 2009: DVD Review: The Secret Tour of Disneyland

Aspect ratio is one thing that always bugs me. I hate it when images are stretched and I also hate it when DVDs with widescreen content aren't produced correctly so that the image fills the entire screen. Perhaps you can contact the creators so that they may fix that on a second pressing of the DVD. That being said I look forward to seeing the DVD someday soon.

Re: December 4, 2009: DVD Review: The Secret Tour of Disneyland

Ok, after watching it a couple of times I do have one little complaint. Although they interview Michael Broggie, they never say that he is the son of Roger Broggie. Roger Broggie, of course, was considered by many to be the first Imagineer, and he helped Walt build his Carolwood Railroad. Knowing this fact makes the interview a little more interesting....

Interesting. I'm sorry that I missed this thread before Christmas. It would have made a great gift for Fishy. I'll have to pick up a copy anyway.

Hello Stu,

Point well taken on the Roger Broggie thing. When we conducted the interview with Michael it was very impromptu. We saw him talking at Walt's Barn, and I told Lo, "Go up and ask Mr. Broggie if he'd like to be interviewed for the DVD. He'll either politely say no thanks, or talk to you for the next 20 minutes." He was great about it and 30 minutes later the interview was done. He was very knowledgeable about Walt and his trains. I do agree with your point that it would have been nice to mention his father, and I think Michael actually did, but due to time constraints that part did not make the final cut. Thanks for your kind words and input on the DVD. Cheers.

This sounds like a really great video. Wish I had seen this post earlier. I'm a video producer myself and it's great to see someone doing something so clever and as a family. I'll have to order.
