July 6, 2007: Disney's Newport Coast Villas

The Yesterland update for this Friday is about Disney's Newport Coast Villas, The Disney Vacation Club that Never Happened.

There are various rumors floating around the Internet this year about new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) resorts—in Florida at Disney's Contemporary, in California at Disney's Grand Californian, and at off-site locations such as Hawaii.

But did you know that Disney announced plans to build a DVC resort on the California coast near Disneyland? It happened way back in March 1994. Last week, I actually stayed at the Vacation Club at the Newport Coast site.

Please discuss the article here.

I actually visited someone that was staying at this resort a couple of years ago. They were not 100% done with the property, but they were really nice on the inside. They were not a hard sell kind of property because they knew that they had a great product.

I wonder if Disney would have been successful if they had held onto the property and developed it as a DVC resort. I think they would have been successful if they had marketed the resort to guests at the Disneyland theme parks and hotels.

The location is convenient to many Southern California coastal attractions, and the hillside site is magnificent.

I think Disney would have had a "great product" too.
