My First Trip to Disneyland . . . 44 Years Ago!!!

Recently, I had about 3 1/2 hours of old 8mm home movies from when I was a kid converted to digital. There were a lot of family gatherings, holidays, birthday parties, vacations and (surprise, surprise) trips to Disneyland.

Here's footage from the summer of 1964 that I think was my first ever trip to Disneyland. I was two years old and still doing time in a stroller. Among the sights are the Matterhorn, the original Tomorrowland, grey subs, the Mine Train and an actual parking lot that would later be the home of DCA.

Nice! Sounds weird but I never knew where the Mine Train fit into Disneyland until you posted that video. Amazing stuff and I saw Alice and the Mad Hatter!

I used Video Wave in Roxio Easy Media Creator. I've only used it a few times so I'm still on a learning curve, but I like the results I'm getting. I think it's a pretty easy program to use, especially for a video noob like me, and I enjoyed all the audio, video and transition effects you can just drop in.

Also, I'm very happy with the company that did the digital transfer. I used Debenham Media Group in Pennsylvania. They do mostly commercial work, but they also have a consumer division for us old-timers with 8mm home movies. I wanted a step-up from just dropping the film off at a local photolab. Debenham wasn't the cheapest, but they weren't the most expensive either. Rather than just burn everything to DVD's, they converted all the footage to 640X480 AVI files and loaded them to a portable hard drive (they'll do MOV files for Mac users too). They also took the 20 assorted reels I sent them and spliced them together onto two large master reels. I was very pleased with their service and the quality of their work.
