The official theme of this year's Epcot International Food and Wine Festival is "Cities in Wonderland," celebrating food cities around the world.

Unfortunately, there's a second, unofficial theme that runs through the 2008 festival: "Cutbacks Compared to 2007."

Great article, Werner. I agree that many of the booths were an improvement over previous years, and the food offerings were just as good...if only slightly more expensive. I will point out, though, that the Shanghai booth wasn't built for the Food & Wine Festival. It was erected earlier this year to serve as a quick service location while the Nine Dragons underwent its lengthy refurbishment. It'll be interesting to see if it goes away after the Festival is over.

And as an FYI, when I attended the Festival a couple of weeks ago I was told by three USA Pears employees that the Pearville Fair will not be returning next year. Hopefully Disney will be able to find a replacement sponsor. Otherwise, I fear there may be more cutbacks in the future.
