August 20, 2010: Sun Wheel: Gone, But Not Gone

I was at Disney California Adventure this month. I was surprised to see the Sun Wheel again and again—even though it was transformed into Mickey’s Fun Wheel between October 2008 to May 2009.

Also, I updated the Yesterland article about the Sun Wheel.

    Please discuss it here.

Interesting. I hadn't noticed that Mickey and the sun had changed places in Paradise Pier like that!

Interesting. Very interesting. I love the articles about the old DCA.

I hope they leave the mural behind Guest Services. It is very nice-looking, and it can be a good memory of the original park. It's like how you can walk around Epcot and see remnants of the original elements.

(I've never visited Disneyland Resort, Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Resort Paris, nor Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, so don't be fooled when I pretend to know what I'm talking about. [But I'm pretty good with the information, if I do say so myself. And you can hit me all you want with Walt Disney World.])

When I read your article and look at the pictures, it just makes me shake my head to think of how wrong the direction was for DCA. Eisner, Pressler, Braverman, their legacy lives on, but hopefully for not long.

Don't forget the titanium sun, with all it's specially designed solar reflectors, in the plaza entry area, which will also be going away, soon, along with the now non-operating water/wave fountain, just below the sun.

And look at Screaming with the white sun emblems, and light fixtures. And didn't the mural that was at golden dreams have at least one sun, and the tiled mural at the current entry? there are bazillion sun emblems all over DCA

The Coppertone billboard is actually not original to the park, but replaced this one.
(The company that made it also designed most of the signage in DCA, take a look here)

I like the hidden Mickey in the orange box, never noticed it before.

I've often pondered when the signage would get replaced. I actually like the mechanical marvel sign, but it would be better if it reflected the actual attraction better.
it's a sale of candy and a sale of plush, it's a sale of toys and disney stuff
there's so much that we sell, that it's time we tell, it's a plush plush sale!
