Donkey rides: Disneyland or Knotts ?

I seem to remember going on Donkey rides at Knott's in the early 1970's. I was born in (1966). I always remember the donkeys being at Knott's Berry Farm. However, I just recently seen pictures of the Rainbow Ridge Pack Mules at Disneyland.

Did Knotts also have donkeys or burros too or just Disneyland?

I would hate it if my childhood memories were wrong....

I don't know of Knott's Berry Farm maybe they did but I can tell you Disney definitely had mule pack rides .

Knott's had em, too! I've got a picture of me riding one of them back in 1973!

I don't remember them at Disneyland. I don't remember any of Nature's Wonderland.

Knott's had them across Beach Blvd across the street from the theme park.

I remember where you mounted the donkeys, there was like a loading dock you stood on while the donkeys were standing on the ground. Made it much easier to get on and off. Then all of the donkeys were released at the same time. There was a track or course they ran/walked on. Then when completed the ride, back to the loading dock area to get off the donkey.

I can't remember if a employee/CM also rode out with us or not.

I'm sure it was across the street. The cool burro was named "silver" but I was too tall for it and got stuck riding slow old "sugar". Funny the dumb things you remember from 3 decades ago!

I rode the donkey/mule in the main park. Of course back then, the Church was in the park, too. I'm not sure when they moved or stopped with the donkey/mule rides.

1973 was the last year that DL had the rides on pack mules. Unfortunately, I didn't get to ride them on my 1st visit to DL that summer.

So, you're both right. looks like up until 71 they were in the main park. by 73, they moved across the street to the lagoon area. I only remember them in the lagoon area, but there is a great post at the Knott's Museum blog that has park maps from the time.

A very cool memory from the past. I visited DL in the late 60's/early 70's as well as KBF and remember seeing and riding on both of them.
The donkey/mule ride was close to where the RR train was.
