What I didn't know about Yesterland, until today.

First of all, let me say this is the first time I ever visited the Yesterland website. Let me thank MiceChat for bringing it here, and making me aware of the Disneyland that used to be.

Perhaps as I read the website, I can share my findings with others at MiceChat.

Re: What I didn't know about Yesterland, until today.

In 1955 when Disneyland opened, I was only 7 years old, going on 8. I was probably one of the children given the new polio shots that were administered to school age children that year.

Joe DiMaggio was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955. Albert Einstein passed away that year. McDonald's restaurants were also founded that very same year.

I am going to enjoy exploring the Yesterland website, and sharing my findings here.

Re: What I didn't know about Yesterland, until today.

I was still a gleam in my then 17-year old mother's eye until the fall of 1955. I was born June 20, 1956...not much less than a year after Disneyland was born.

I first visited Disneyland in 1960. I have fuzzy memories of the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and the Indian Village, and having pancakes at Aunt Jemima's.

My great grandmother lived in a mobile home park about a mile away on Harbor Boulevard. When we went to visit, we could hear the whistle of the Mark Twain...very special memories indeed.

Re: What I didn't know about Yesterland, until today.

I forget how I first found out about Yesterland. I had just a few months earlier learned how to turn on a computer.

I was surfing my way around the net back then, and found Yesterland through I think a Yahoo search.

I was constantly looking for things to remind me of my years working there.

It was like finding a gold mine for me.

Today I discovered that the Disneyland Railroad was originally called the Sante Fe and Disneyland Rairoad. I already knew that some of the original attractions in Fantasyland were moved. Today I found out that that happened in 1983. Those attractions were Dumbo, The Mad Tea Party and King Arthur's Carousel. The Canal Boats of the World, became the Storybook Land Canal Boats in 1956, and Snow White's Adventure became Snow White's Scary Adventure in 1983.

A fine point here...but it was listed as Snow White's Adventures (Scary) in ticket books long before the 1983 Fantasyland refurb. In my opinion Fantasyland was better in the pre-83 days.

Re: What I didn't know about Yesterland, until today.

Disneyland was so different back in 1955. I won't go into listing all the attractions that were there in the different lands at that time. Only one attraction has remained in each of the three lands of Tomorrowland, Adventureland, and Frontierland. Tomorrowland has Autopia, and it remains popular today. Each time I have been at Disneyland there was always a little wait to ride that attraction. Adventureland has the classic Jungle Cruise. I love that attraction. It is both relaxing, and comical at the same time. Frontierland has the wonderful Mark Twain. Can't pass up a chance to ride that either.

There are so many different attractions that are but memories, and I look forward to reading about some of them here at Yesterland.
