That sounds a bit ridiculous, chlorine damages your hair, but haven't heard of it causing it t fall out nor fingernails for that matter. I'm sure there were heavy levels of chlorine, but being a swim team kid for many years, I've never had any affect like that.

I hope they bring them back...not the real live ones, but the cheesy fake ones. that'd make my day.

Aye aye!!! I remember them vaguely... but the sub ride was my all time favorite ride as a kid. I know they are suppose to open it back up with Nemo but I miss my old school yellow submarine ride.

that is ridiculous. Yea chlorine is not great for your hair, but as long as you wash it afterward it'll be fine.

I doubt they will bring the real ones back just for damn insurance reasons.

Oi vay. Why must there be so many regulatyions now. I can understand the reasonig for some but seriously it gets rather tiresome hearing 'no' just because one person is stupid.

Thumbs up Re: Submarine Voyage Mermaids!!!

Okay, from what I know, chlorine is relatively harmless, as long as you shower, and wash what got in your hair out after you leave the water. The mermaids probably were never in the lagoon for significant amounts of time, so they probably were not subject to any skin damage or negative affects of that kind. Also I really didn't think that the lagoon was chlorinated. I am relatively well versed in boating skills, and I know that chlorine eats away at certain types of metals, and finishes, and in return, rust and other such debris from boats contaminate chlorinated water, making additional cleanings and higher levels of chlorine necessary, so IMHO I don't believe this is a valid reason for not bringing the mermaids back. I really hope they do.

Actually, it was. I remember that factoid from my cast member training in the seventies.

The lagoon water used to be five times the chlorine concentration of the average swimming pool! Before the rehab of 1986, Imagineers wanted the water to be crystal clear, to better see the show. But later on, the water was designed to be a bit more 'murky' as one would find naturally occurring in the ocean. (I suspect the real reason was an attempt to camouflage the wires that the fish were suspended from. )

I can remember regularly seeing two of the maintenance divers at the Inn Between when I worked the graveyard shift. Their hair was about the same color as The Grinch. Obviously, the chlorine was responsible.

That is fascinating, I would never have guessed this would be so, but then again, how else would they have made the water so clear. Thanks for your info.
