I Miss the Disneyland Entrance Signs

These are not attractions, so to speak, but I miss the old entrance signs. The city of Anaheim made all the businesses around Disneyland, including Disney, to conform to some stupid rule about having anything interesting in signage a few years ago. I remember as a kid the first sign http://disneyshopping.go.com/webapp/...tegoryId=14859
Then the replacement sign, which was purchased by actor John Stamos

Somehow not having these greet me when I visit makes the trip a little sadder.

There are pictures of the actual signs (not reworked as artwork for sale) at http://www.yesterland.com/welcome.html

I REALLY miss those signs too. I wish there was at least SOMETHING cool leading into the new parking structure too but we just have these tiny dinky signs that make the trek into the parking building way less magical.

The cool thing is that the Olszewski studios are reproducing the original sign in miniature next year so I'll definitely pick that up for old times' sake.

I love/hate that the first sign says "visit America Sings" on it. Not that I really really miss.

I think the first sign (with the white letters) was the best sign. I remember it so well - but I think it was updated with in 1989 or 1990, if memory serves me correctly.

I'm not a huge fan of the newer sign but that old sign was so UGLY! But then I hated that thing on a personal level. Try changing those old crappy letters with cars zooming by and just a couple of nobs to do it with.

I really liked the original sign, and LOVED the newer sign.
Unfortunately, the newer sign was not with us for very long.

It would be great if they could rework either into the parking
    tram waiting area.

Everytime I pass that lumber yard on Ball Road, I think about the old Disneyland sign - even though it is a completely differant style... there is something about it (era wize) that reminds me of the old signs in the Disneyland area...

The newer sign with 'The Happiest Place on Earth' lasted from 1988 to 1998. That is when the entrance was redone to allow California Adventure to fill the old parking lot.

I've also heard that the Disneyland Hotel sign will also be gone soon. Is that a rumor or is that true? How ironic that a place that features past, present, and future tries to eliminate the past. I belive it has more to do with the City of Anaheim than anything.

I thought the Disneyland Hotel signs on top of the building are already gone...

Re: I Miss the Disneyland Entrance Signs

Come to think of it, is there an official sign for Disneyland anywhere?
I mean those new arches with the character cut-outs are it?
    They need a big sign.

I like the current ones (before the paint) . Disneyland does not need a huge sign - it just needs something to mark the entrance to the Resort, and most people will be able to take it from there.

Re: I Miss the Disneyland Entrance Signs

I really miss the old sign too. It was so iconic, so apart of the landscape. When I was growing up, the last sign was the first thing I would always see, coming to Disneyland. As a kid, the big Disneyland sign would be the first thing I saw coming to the park, and the Disneyland Hotel sign would be the last thing I saw leaving. And that would always be after seeing the Main Street Electrical Parade. So I became very fond of the imagery and singage of the "D" on Disneyland. I love the way it looks. After a three year absence to the park area (1996-1999), I didn't even recognize the place. I often wondered where the sign was. I took me a while to realize that they had removed it. Yet another thing gone that's made Disneyland a little less special.
