Big Thunder Construction from the Skyway

More old photos. You can still see the old fantasyland theatre.

Now that brings back memories. We happened to be there the day they lifted the top of the mountain into place. In the morning it was all skeletal I-beams, and when we looked over in the afternoon there was this Bryce Canyon-like pinnacle in mid-air.

Very great photo! I love these vintage photos that show all the older attractions, and the construction of them.

If the internet as we know it today were around during the late '70s, there would be threads dedicated to Big Thunder's construction from the Skyway (as well as FL's remodel in the early '80s).

Wow that is a great pic!!! Plus, it sparked a memory for me. It is something that has been pocketed in my brain since I was little. I remember (age 4 or 5) seeing the wall surrounding Big Thunder. It must have been one of my first visits to DL...because I remember the old FL as well.

Thanks for sharing. Sure makes me miss that Skyway anymore. How can one truly get pics like that anymore!! booo

Just curious, what was in tha Fantasyland Theatre at the time?

And was the mountain itself, or atleast the portion of the mountain in your picture, built over any of the Mine Train sets/stages? If it was built over any sets, do you know which ones?

I can't answer your question about the Mine Train, that would be a good question for the folks at keeline.com. I think he is a member of this board as well.

As I remember it, around this time the Fantasyland theatre showed "Mickey's Trailer" and one other short (don't remember what it was, but I think it was a goofy or donald short) over and over.

The only thing from Mine Train through Natures wonderland that is left at the site is the town of Rainbow Ridge as far as I know. They have torn down all the mountains/hills that were part of the ride. i believe the last was cascade peak in the 90's. Keeline would be the expert on this subject and his site as stated above is Keeline.com
I was a few minutes away from Hong Kong Disneyland and didn't make it but got this cool picture though
