This is a tough one. . . Do you want to include any of the "real" fueling stations?

I remember in the 60's the Autopias had mechanical gas pumps of the period right there in the loading area for fueling.

I think the Tomorrowland boats also had their refueling equipment on stage.

Great article. I always love Disney's attention to detail. Sometimes with all the running back and forth to get on rides, we can forget to just sit back and enjoy the settings.

Very nice. I too would like to see more articles of this type.

When I was visiting the Hoteli Burudjra there was a constant hammering sound going on at the hotel that might make it hard to sleep. The workers must be very diligent since they never stop working.

    Great and fun article, Werner!

FYI, the main inspiration for the Canadian National Hotel at Epcot is actually Chateau Laurier in Ottawa, Canada. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chateau_Laurier).

Thank you! Based on your post, I added Le Château Laurier to the front of the list of "fabled Canadian hotels" in the article.

Isn't AK's Dinoland USA located "on the grounds" of an old gas station? I seem to remember signs and rusted gas pumps.

BTW, this article was wonderful! I am linking it to everyone I know.

Outstanding read! Great job on this article - congrats.

I could be reaching here but, inside the Great Movie Ride, when entering the gangster scene, there is a Hotel above Patrick J. Ryan's bar. Seedy place that makes the Hollywood Tower Hotel look like the Grand Californian. The "H" and "E" on the sign are pretty much 'spent' so the sign reads _OT_L. Gotta love those little details.

That's a great suggestion! Thank you!

I just updated http://www.yesterland.com/hotels.html with the Hotel Above the Patrick J. Ryan Bar.

My picture isn't good, but at least I had one from earlier this year. With the low lighting, the moving ride vehicle, and the heads in front of me, it was hard to take a good picture. I'll try again the next time I'm a Disney-MGM Studios.

This is a really great article, hitting on one of the things that I love about Disney theme parks -- that every building, every door, every scene can be imagined to have its own new story and characters behind it.

I also thought of another hotel to add to the list: the El Dorado Hotel in the queue of Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Do you know what the Marceline Hotel is named after? Marceline, Missouri, which Mainstreet was (somewhat) modeled after.

Re: July 20, 2007: Disney Hotels at which You Haven't Stayed

I just saw this article and loved it.

By the by, did Walt Disney have some sort of special interest in Chinese restaurants? There's the one shown in the article, in the Studios next to the Chinatown hotel -- as well as one in the MK's Main Street and one in Disneyland's Main Street. (There is one other Chinese restaurant in WDW that I'm aware of -- can anyone name its location? It's "hidden"...) I also believe that the first human AA figure was originally supposed to be a replica of Confucius, to be located in an operational Chinese restaurant in DL.

(Apropos of this subject, there are also at least two Chinese laundries in the Disney parks -- the one shown in the article, in the Studios next to the Chinatown hotel, as well as one in the MK's Frontierland. I'm not sure whether there are any others in any of the other parks' Frontierlands...)
