My father owned restaurant in Frontierland

Wow, you folks are absolutely wonderful...all these stories about growing up in Disneyland and my brother and I have found Yesterland nervana! What a pleasure to share our Disneyland past with such a warm group of folks that truly enjoy our stories.

So, for all of you, I'm about to do what I've never done before - - because of all the requests - - below is the recipee to Don DeFore Silver Banjo Barbecue sauce that my Mom invented after many, many nights of testing various recipees on us kids. This is truly the best barbecue sauce you will ever taste. The recipee is for a gallon and you won't be sorry you made so much. The secret is to simmer it all day long. As you can see this is the oringal hand-written recipee in my Mom's handwriting on my Dad's personalized note pad. Enjoy!

When you get it made you might want to consider having multiples made to sell as reproductions to the collectors market, I'm sure there are folks who would love to buy a little piece of Disneyland history with such an interseting story behind it if you sell them mounted on a wooden plaque you could affix a sticker with the "back story" you have shared here on the back side,


then again this is just a "my 2 cents" passing thought, so that might be about all this thought is worth.

Chili sauce is similar to cocktail sauce. It's a spicy tomato based sauce used in cooking and for dipping. You can find it at any grocery store near the cocktail sauce. Heinz makes a good "Chili Sauce".

I was so excited to read about your Dad's restaurant. When I was a kid my Mom had me watch Ozzie and Harriet reruns. I loved the show and loved Thorny. Everytime I see your Dad in a movie (I just watched The Facts of Life this week with Lucille Ball and Bob Hope) I think of your Dad's restaurant. My Dad worked at Disneyland before working for Universal Studios and then CBS. At Disneyland he played in the Dixieland Band and had to wear green tights for Peter Pan in parades. I would love to hear anymore of your memories.

Frito-Lay was a park sponsor from the opening, I believe, until at least the mid to late80's.

When I was a kid, I remember seeing the Disneyland castle logo on bags of Fritos in the supermarkets.

And what is now "Rancho Zocalo" was for many, many years the "Casa De Fritos" complete with a Fritos vending machine, as I recall.

Casa De Fritos had much better food back in the day than Rancho does now IMO.
