A photo that was taken inside the Opera House lobby gives a pretty good indication of what they are going to do to update the Lincoln attraction. After we dug a little more we find out that it may not be a very good idea.

Got that Egg McMuffin unwrapped yet? Have that hotter than hot Mickey D's coffee fixed just the way you want? Well then let's get going shall we? - Al

While the Opera House at Disneyland remains closed, someone was kind enough to send me a photo of the lobby as they set up the return of the Lincoln show. As you can see for yourself below, it looks like they are taking a whole new approach to it...

Obama-wanna

A closer look at the poster, reveals a single word has been changed in the title of the show.

Pin for sale of course

Once we had the title it gave us a chance to dig around a little bit, and we found the following Imagineering memo explaining the new concept:

Design concept: sign art

  • Lincoln attraction to be updated to enhance traffic flow through adjacent new Disney Gallery merchandising location.

  • New 3-D projection and sound technology previously utilized in Philharmagic allows audience to be immersed in presentation, reducing walkouts.

  • George Clooney will record new Lincoln voice track and has agreed to do promotional tour for the attraction.

  • As with small world, the addition of Disney characters to the show to be portrayed as enhancement and not a marketing-based decision. (Enlist Sklar to do PR).

I'm not touching that with a ten foot...
Design concept: 3-D glasses

Show synopsis:

  • Show to begin just as previous versions, retaining skills of the sculptor line.

  • Just as Lincoln begins his speech "something goes terribly wrong" and he appears to malfunction, bringing the show to a quick halt.

  • Suddenly, Mickey Mouse magically appears and summons Donald Duck. The duck is sent to find favorite Disney robot characters to try and help the robotic Mr. Lincoln complete his speech. (Although non-robotic, Buzz and Woody inserted at the request of JL.)

  • Mayhem ensues as the duck accidentally summons Disney robot villains.

Concept art

  • Summoning his magical powers, Mickey goes into sorcerer mode, vanquishes the evil robots, and helps fix Mr. Lincoln just in time to deliver the last line of his speech.

  • Jonas Brothers perform Battle Hymn of the Republic.

  • A blast of confetti ends the show.

Internet strategy:

  • Leak incorrect information about new Obama animatronic.
  • Hire internet gadflies for company projects.
  • Continue to insist project nonexistent until formal announcement is made.

(End of information.)

As you can see this project is, well... interesting, to say the very least.

Apparently a deal has been struck whereas some projects like the Sleeping Beauty Castle walkthrough are approved in exchange for marketing driven changes in other classic attractions such as small world and now Mr. Lincoln.

So, where do they put Mickey and friends inside Pirates of the Caribbean?

Oh-kay - that should do it for today. Remember your support is vital. Since Amazon ended their Honor System and the ad market is soft, your donations to PayPal help keep the bills paid. We're only here due to all of your kind efforts.

Keep in mind updates only get posted when there is something to report on, and not before. It takes time to confirm things, and even then we can only offer a snapshot of a continually evolving story. Just like the happiest place on earth, patience is a virtue; the queue may take a while before you can enjoy the attraction. ;)

See you at Disneyland!
