D23’s description of the event:
Toby Tyler, or 10 Weeks with a Circus, was originally released on January 21, 1960. It stars Disney acting vet Kevin Corcoran (Old Yeller, The Shaggy Dog and Swiss Family Robinson, to name a few of his Disney credits) as well as Henry Calvin and Gene Sheldon (both of whom starred in Zorro and Babes in Toyland).
The event promises some special D23 surprises as well as the opportunity to mix and mingle with your fellow D23 Members on the Studio Lot.

And now for something completely different (to steal a line from Monty Python) and because I am currently reading Assassination Vacation by Sarah Vowell (the voice of Violet in the Incredibles) and thus, at this point in time, am fascinated with Abraham Lincoln, I found a Lincoln activity for all of you in the Disneyland vicinity, specifically at Orange County’s Old Courthouse in Santa Ana. With President’s Day coming up, it’s a great way to expose the kiddies to some Lincoln lore.
From ocparks.com:
On this special Saturday Open House, visit the Old Courthouse to see the exhibit “Abraham Lincoln: Self-Made in America.” In addition to the exhibit, families can create nineteenth century-inspired crafts and play with replica toys. At noon, the Orange County Historical Commission will sponsor the showing of the 1940 classic movie “Abe Lincoln in Illinois”. This critically acclaimed movie fictionally portrays Lincoln’s childhood and early political career.

Also of interest next door to the courthouse, is the historic Dr. Willella Howe-Waffle House, which will be open and available for tours.
Event Fee: Free
Takes place: Sat, February 6th
Saturday Open House
10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Old Orange County Courthouse

Okay … who doesn’t like free stuff? Anyone? I thought so. This one’s rather curious but also cool. It’s another LA-based thing (sorry all you readers elsewhere – send me your press releases and I might just talk about them in a future Pressing Matters), a free fruit tree. Plant a tree and grow some fruit in your own backyard.
LACMA (or Los Angles County Museum of Arts) has got this really interesting project going on. Called EATLACMA, it kicks off a yearlong phase this coming weekend with the free fruit tree giveaway:
Plant the Perimeter Fruit Tree Giveaway
Saturday, February 6 | 12:00 pm
Artist collective Fallen Fruit kicks off a yearlong project, EATLACMA, with a fruit tree giveaway. Come pick up a free fruit tree along with planting instructions for your garden. This is the first in a series of events, which will include an exhibition, opening in June, and a series of food-related events throughout the year.
EATLACMA is a yearlong investigation into food, art, culture and politics. EATLACMA's projects consider food as a common ground that explores the social role of art and ritual in community and human relationships. EATLACMA unfolds seasonally, with artist's gardens planted and harvested on the museum campus, hands-on public events, and a concurrent exhibition, Fallen Fruit Presents The Fruit of LACMA (June 27-November 7, 2010)
Limited quantity of trees available, please plan to arrive early. The event will end by 3 pm or when all trees have been given away.

Our last item today is all about travel. I don’t know about you, but I don’t get to travel as much as I’d like to. So I live vicariously through the Travel Channel and that frequently means watching Samantha Brown.
Samantha travels over 230 days a year, some job huh? I especially love it when she goes to Disney destinations (and France, which I guess, technically, is also a Disney destination, what with Disneyland Paris and all).
Samantha's celebrating a 10-year anniversary on the Travel Channel with Four Special Episodes (one in which she goes to Walt Disney World).
From the press release:
Travel Channel host Samantha Brown will celebrate her 10th Anniversary on the network, and a decade of inspiring audiences to look past the standard travel guides. To honor this milestone, the network will broadcast four original hour-long specials with Samantha beginning Monday, February 8 at 8PM.
"The past ten years has been an incredible journey -- literally and figuratively," said Samantha Brown, Travel Channel host. Meeting and interacting with people around the country and around the world has been both a life-altering and humbling experience. I'm excited to uncover the adventures that lie ahead for me in the next decade."

Visiting dozens of countries, hundreds of cities and staying in countless hotels around the world, Samantha has been a familiar face on Travel Channel. She began on the network hosting the Great Vacation Homes series, then Great Hotels, and over the years Samantha carved out a distinctive style unparalleled by any other talent on television.
With fan favorites like Passport to Europe, Passport to Latin America, and her latest series, Samantha Brown's Great Weekends, Samantha's ability to convey the feeling of a specific place -- not just the basic facts -- has established her as an inspirational resource for prospective travelers.
