Dateline Disneyland is back with news, photos, and construction updates from the Disneyland Resort in Southern California. The big news last week was the much-anticipated return of the 1986 Michael Jackson 3D musical spectacular Captain EO. With "Honey, I Shrunk the Audience" evicted from Tomorrowland, Captain EO has returned for a limited engagement along with a line of nostalgic merchandise. Meanwhile, as the rest of Disneyland continues through its winter off-season refurbishments, Disney's California Adventure makes progress with its $1 billion expansion and remodel. New tracks for the upcoming Red Car Trolleys have been laid in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot, and construction continues on Cars Land and various Paradise Pier attractions including the massive Disney's World of Color nighttime water spectacular and the Paradise Park viewing area.

Captain EO reopened at Disneyland today. The first guest (MiceChatter DisneyDaniel) got in line late on Monday night for a chance to be the first to see EO once more. But, by 6am (when MiceChat reporter, Fishbulb, showed up) there were only about 50 people in line. That number soon swelled to 500-600 people as the first crowds were escorted to the Captain EO attraction. While the crowds may have been much lower than expected by Disney, it was a good turnout for a week day. There is no doubt that EO will be a big draw for months to come. Join us for photos, news, and information from the opening of this attraction.

Al Lutz has a "Monster" update for us today of the unfortunate kind. He chimes in on the D23 Expo, the current condition of Captain EO, and what will likely replace Captain EO when the run of Honey I Shrunk The Audience/Captain EO is over next year. Many of you won't be happy with the replacement (at least not for Tomorrowland).

The weekend is practically here and we've got a lot of news and photos to share. Looks like Murphy, the Fantasmic dragon, will remain reluctant this weekend. Captain EO is also proving to be a bit reluctant, but there is still good news. Join us for the In the Parks So Cal Theme Park Blog for news, information, and photos from around the parks and we'll do our best to keep you up to date and in the know.

Tons of exciting news and discussion for you in this update. We'll look into the possibility that Captain EO may return to Disneyland for Halloween. There is also some amazing discussion regarding the storylines for World of Color and the back story for Big Thunder Mountain. Was the recent rash of upcoming attraction leaks intentional? Is it possible that the Disney World folks are just trying to steal a little thunder from Universal's much ballyhooed Harry Potter Land? There are also several reports from Comic-Con and wonderful trip reports and photos from parks all over the place. Theme park news, movie and entertainment discussions, photos and trip reports, and a healthy dose of fun and often bizarre topics all help to make the Weekly Roundup one of our most popular features, dive on in and join the fun!

Al Lutz is back with another of his famous Disneyland updates and this is an amazing one. The eye-popping news is that Captain EO may temporarily return to the Magic Eye Theater in Tomorrowland, replacing the lackluster Honey I Shrunk The Audience, during the Halloween season. Fans and visitors alike will also be thrilled to hear that Jack Skellington's ghost dog Zero will fly the high wire during the evening fireworks this Halloween as well. And plans are developing to significantly raise the cost of annual passes due to the overwhelming crowds that the 800,000 member program generates. All this and news regarding Fantasmic's most unfortunate dragon in today's update!
